Once more unto the breach, dear friends!
For the fourth season running Leinster will meet La Rochelle in the knock-out stages of the Champions Cup. And it's fair to say Leinster have had their fill of La Rochelle at this stage. There have been three heart-breaking defeats, with each one somehow getting more excruciating. Yes, Leinster finally beat them in the pool stages earlier this season. But while that was a fine result, Leinster always knew in themselves they would likely have to knock La Rochelle out at some point to finally win the cup again.

Well, we said the season was starting to ramp up last week and Leinster responded with their best performance of the season!

They had the better start, on the back of three consecutive scrum penalties (Evans, help us!). And they led at half-time with Leinster down to fourteen men for the beginning of the second half...

Tomorrow night the season really starts to crank up.
There's no more international interruptions, it's all Leinster, all the way from now until the end of the season, which will hopefully be on June 22nd. We'll leave talk of Europe until next week as the final six regular league games could be fascinating. Unlike previous seasons, Leinster have not built up a massive lead in the table. They are only four points ahead of tomorrow night's opponents, the Bulls.

At international level, the green machine fell off the rails in their attempt to secure a second Grand Slam in a row.
Not that winning a second consecutive championship is anything to be sniffed at, especially for a country that went 24 years without winning one between 1985 and 2009. But non Grand Slam championship wins are funny things and are really dependent on how they're won in the end.

Meanwhile Leinster are in Wales in URC action. After a slightly ropey first half, they ultimately beat Benetton comfortably in the RDS two weeks ago. Then a young side lost away to a very experienced Saracens side last weekend in a challenge match.
