Gary Halpin - RIP
Very sad news!
https://www.leinsterrugby.ie/gary-halpin-rip/
As a "Johnny come lately" I don't remember his games for Leinster but I do remember him playing for Ireland.
How many times did he play for Leinster?

Re: Gary Halpin - RIP
That’s really sad. Gary was an incredibly honest player: both in his effort on the field and in his account of playing off it. I remember him recounting his actual physical fear at playing on occasion. It takes a brave man to own up to that common emotion in this game- particularly in the front row.LeinsterLeader wrote:Very sad news!

He wasn’t the best prop we ever had play for us, but he was no slouch either; very good and committed and a nice man.
He will be missed by all Leinster and Ireland fans.

He played 18 times across the 99/00 and 00/01 seasons. Not sure if he played for Leinster before the game went open in 1995. My memory is that he played most of his club rugby in England.LeinsterLeader wrote: ↑February 24th, 2021, 11:20 am Very sad news!

Certainly won't forget his try and celebration against NZ at the 1995 RWC.
RIP Gary.
Look out Itchy, he's Irish

Fondly remember him and heard many good funny stories about him, he was certainly old school. One I witnessed was him walking around Stillorgan Leisureplex at 3am in his latter career after a BCRFC game wearing his subs jacket from the game but nothing else with not a f%~king care in the world.
RIP

Watched it live, gave us all a good laugh. I think this is the game Jonah announced himself to the world.

I heard that one of Gary’s lines about that AB match, was that he sidestepped Lomu three times in the game... unfortunately Johan had the ball at the time!

Re: Gary Halpin - RIP
As an avid athletics fan and and an athlete that has retired over 10 times, along with being a rugby fanatic, I am deeply saddened by this news.
I had the privilege of meeting him a couple of years ago in Tullamore at an athletics competition, and as far as I remember he won the hammer that day.
I was like a school boy after meeting his hero, and struggled to have a coherent conversation.

Just because a post upsets you, that doesn’t mean that it is wrong. People have different views in all aspects of life, this is a key ingredient to an interesting conversation.

Very sad news. A great character of the game gone way too young. May he Rest In Peace
Re: Gary Halpin - RIP
Absolutely. My condolences to his family, friends and former team-mates. He seemed like a great character and great company, from what I've heard.
