Also noticed Isileli Tu'ungafasi is a loosehead prop for Crusaders. Hasn't played TH since 2015 for NZ U20's.

Re: Tighthead Prop going forward
But why, what would be the sense to it?
We already have two of the best tighthead props in Europe certainly, if not the world. An NIQ signing wouldn't be playing in any of the games they're available for and what we have behind them is already good enough for the games they aren't. It would simply be a signing for a signings sake. It would make more sense to give Bent an extra year to help bring on Clarkson and use the signing somewhere it's more needed.

I don't think he's floating fiction, I think he's flying a kite that he was given.

Very strange, the younger Tu'ungafasi took an age to break into super rugby, is much smaller and less impressive than his brother, and is a loosehead anyway. Also, prop is probably the only position where NH players are on average better than their SH counterparts (see the likes of Jager and O'Donnell succeeding in Super Rugby).

Signing a 19 stone Islander TH would certainly add a bit of power.hugonaut wrote: ↑February 23rd, 2021, 7:29 am Ruaidhri O'Connor reporting that we are interested in Isi Tu'ungafasi [source: https://www.independent.ie/sport/rugby/ ... 21376.html ].

Dopey idea moving Porter back to LH, who comes in if Furlong falls over?

Cook Islands are big into their rugby league. They've qualified for RL world cups. A bit of an oddity to see Stan over here at all.
Re: Tighthead Prop going forward
On the actual islands union and 7s is still king by a long shot. Their league team is made up of mainly heritage players from Aus and NZ where league has a foothold. It's the same situation with Tonga.

Re: Tighthead Prop going forward
I get the interpretation that him being central to lifting the trophy is a sign that he's departing but i hope not. I prefer to see it as recognition for a massive contribution to success this year. With the way Salanoa left suddenly, that would have put a dent in Leo's plan for the season and he had to lean on Benty an awful lot and he certainly answered the call, with a very high and consistent level of performance and also chipped in with a few tries and a good few scrum penos which I see Leo also referenced yesterday. We'll be in much the same position again next year you'd imagine, maybe less so if Vakh makes a good comeback granted, so hopefully he'll still be around

Can we get Benty an OLSC shirt before he leaves?
