Is he in the sub academy or academy? Has he progressed the way people thought he might?
He's not listed in the academy. We haven't seen anything of Cormac Foley with the seniors yet, have we?

Sub academy.

Progressed compared to what?

He hasn't played much rugby like most u20s so hard to know where he stands. I wouldn't consider him to be a certain future star back three player, but he has a chance.

Foleys been in with the rest of the academy whenever they all train together. If that's what your asking.

Peter Smyth:
Smyth insists the IRFU do not intend to introduce a central academy system, but he acknowledges that more movement of young players between provinces is inevitable.

“It’s always the case, ultimately, that players will seek the best opportunity to play the game.

"The system is there to provide players with the resource and abilities to maximise their talent and provide them with playing opportunities.

“After that, it’s up to the player to see where those best opportunities are for him.”

Currently, there are 65 NTS players across the four provinces, with 255 PTS players. In normal times, these youngsters make up the age-grade inter-provincial and national teams and are working to earn a place in one of the four academies in Munster, Leinster, Connacht, and Ulster.

Right now, nearly all of those 320 players are training remotely, with only academy-contracted players – there are 67 of them in total – and senior professionals allowed to train together in Level 5.

Naas man Jamie Osborne has just been upgraded from the NTS into the Leinster academy after his recent senior debut for the province, while the same has happened for Ulster man Ben Moxham. Other hopefuls haven’t had chances to impress on the pitch.

So Osborne, Hanan and Cosgrave all have gotten full academy contracts?

One of the articles said there are exceptions for NTS players joining senior training to cover injuries, such as Cosgrave at the moment, so wouldn't be sure if he has a contract, Osborne probably has got one now if he's actually playing pro14, think Hanan was promoted a few months ago

didn't see that, might explain it.

still I would expect it's only a matter of time for cosgrave.

He looks to have a very impressive frame and still looks (from my uninformed eye) to still be a bit wirey.

After some more senior level S&C (I emphasize S&C, not meaningless weight gaining) he could naturally end up close to a Yannick Jauzion dimensioned player.

if we are going to compare him to french legends then i'd lean more towards Rougerie.

Ah come on..he’s been a superb player at schools level, I’d be extremely surprised if he doesn’t make it. I was surprised he didn’t get academy straight from school. If a player like Harry Byrne or Max O’Reilly have done this well (both weren’t highly rated in school) then you’d expect Cosgrave to push on and make it in the senior squad in the future considering he’s been a stand out player all the way through.

Will Cosgrave play for the senior squad? More than likely yeah but that's not what I said is it?

The question is he likely to be a star player for Leinster? And despite his successful schools career, i'd consider that to be far from a certainty, just like O'Reilly and many others who've had very good underage careers and are currently in the academy. He would hardly be the 1st superb schools player to not translate to pro rugby successfully, in fact it happens quite often, especially in the outside backs.

Just look at the irish 7's squad for superb schools players who didn't make it very far professionally at Leinster - Billy Dardis, Jack Kelly, Gavin Mullin.
