Nothing to do with cost cutting, embroidery costs next to nothing on an industrial scale and is actually the cheaper option, which is why you find it on the knock off jerseys instead of decals.
The problem with embroidery is that its quite limiting for high end sportswear. You can't do any kind of complex design in high definition, embroidery doesn't work on a lightweight base material - you need a minimum weight of cloth as a base, it breaks the base material's tear resistance, it chafes on a skintight jersey, and thread shrinks whereas the new extruded materials don't - so you get puckering after a number of washes.
Embroidery works well for simple designs on thick weaves like classic Polo Shirts or the old cotton jerseys - it's cheap, once you set up the embroidery disk it's reusable (as long as you don't lose the disk!), you can use the same thread as the base material uses so no puckering, and it doesn't depend on people following the washing instructions.

Okay, here it is........ I'm gonna get it of my chest.......my main problem with the Adidas stuff...... It's basically the same as Munsters except theirs is red and ours is Blue/Navy. Even the training gear last year was the same.
Surly making two designs can't be that difficult for them. Am I asking too much?

The three broad stripes on the arm and the vertical LEINSTER are straight out of Adidas' late 80s and early 90s design language. I wish they'd go back a decade further and give us more Adidas Originals type stuff

Yep some of the tracksuits last year were verging on 'Originals' design, they've gone away from it this year!
I actually like the grey hoody, after all my trash talk yesterday. Not as good as the bright blue ones from last year though. They seemed to vanish pretty quickly

Jaysus, that's toughie. For me a toss-up between first two alternatives. The New Gold Dream was, IMO, the high-water mark for Simple Minds, soon after however bass player Derek Forbes left and they regressed into stadium-rockers. But I go for Bowie for two reasons: one, the first time I ever heard the song Sound and Vision was just after its single release in early 1977. I found it on the juke box in the arcade at the bottom of O'Connell Street, while playing a couple of games of pool as a teenager en route of a Saturday afternoon to a Five Nations international in Lansdowne Road. Reason two: the lyrics "blue, blue, electric blue...."
