Re: Central Contracts
if you want to see a real contract mess, Gatlands Law says Gatty can only pick 2 players this season who signed new foreign deals but turned down domestic deals
apparently North never got a domestic/dual offer so he doesnt count and Charteris is saying he only got a club offer after he signed with Bath
which leaves Priestland and Roberts as only players the law applies to and he gets a 3rd wildcard next year
Which Munster player rejected a central deal and why would they?
Know Hayes got exemption from required sponsors/promotional work and SOB turned down his central deal because those obligations would keep him off the farm
Payne couldnt get a central deal without being IQ and he wouldnt get one before playing for Ireland/establishing himself

Re: Central Contracts
Gatland's law seems to be derived from Cheika's "include any stipulations that cover the players I want law".

Payne got a one year from Ulster and second 2 years central or that was what was reported up here anywayjohng wrote:Payne is on an Ulster contract until the end of the season. Unless he had his 3 year contract ripped up behind closed doors, and changed to central.
O'Mahony is in year one of a 3 year central same as Tommycakes.

Re: Central Contracts
The wording in press releases is not very clear when it comes to central contracts so there is plenty of room for confusion unless someone actually gets the info from a player or the management.
Re: Central Contracts
Priestland withdrew himself from international consideration for the duration of the Bath deal - so as things stand it is only Roberts this season.simonokeeffe wrote:if you want to see a real contract mess, Gatlands Law says Gatty can only pick 2 players this season who signed new foreign deals but turned down domestic deals

Re: Central Contracts
Faletau has signed for bath for next year - so that at least him and Roberts taking up 2 of the "Gatlands Law" spots next year.

Re: Central Contracts
Faletau doesnt as his offer of a central deal was withdrawn, the wildcards only apply to players who turned down a central deal (at market value)neill_m wrote:Faletau has signed for bath for next year - so that at least him and Roberts taking up 2 of the "Gatlands Law" spots next year.
rumour is Halfpenny wont be offered one/would be considered below his market value

Re: Central Contracts
They seem to be moving the goalposts all the time on this issue. Dragons will be well annoyed at WG, blocked an immediate move to Bath last month for the player (Bath were apparently willing to pay NGD £125K to buy out the remainder of the contract). Bath then did the same thing with Dave Denton - NGD will get £0 as Faletau will be free agent.
Also interesting that Scott Williams had his offer of a central deal withdrawn as Ospreys were fighting Scarlets for his signature. A central deal would have had him staying at Scarlets. Does this mean if an AP side came in for him, then he would also be outside this "law"?

think IRFU are going to have to expand number of central contracts to keep pace with English/French salaries, probably go up to 17 or 18 this cycle and then settle in and around the 20 mark next renewal cycle onwards

Re: Central Contracts
Scott Williams has signed a new 3yr deal with the Scarlets - non central deal. The WRU offer was withdrawn when the Ospreys offered a deal £80k above the value of it and Scarlets have apparently matched this. Means they are paying it in full rather than the 60/40 Union/Region split for a Central deal.

also means he is not limited to 20 club games in the season as he would have been under dcneill_m wrote:Scott Williams has signed a new 3yr deal with the Scarlets - non central deal. Re: Central Contracts
True, leaves scarlets out of pocket mind. If you assume a wru offer of £200k/(probably more than) then scarlets would pay £240k over 3 yrs the union the rest. If he is getting £280k/pa all from scarlets. They are out £600k over the contract because of ospreys gazumping the union!

whats happenign though which is a bit of a mess is a lot of players had existing deals including durations upgraded to dual contracts, so the eejits didnt give them new (longer) deals

Jackson is not on a central but I think that both Jackson and Payne have deals sorted with Ulster and Ireland respectively

would be amazed if either left though, doubt either will get central deals though

Re: Central Contracts
Ah. We are back to your theory that Payne was woken up in the middle of the night and secretly converted to a central contract....
Who knows? We'll see what be signs this time. Ulster have more players with Ireland now. Makes sense that they have more CCs.
