(@ DNS being hosted there at all, that there was no firewall/iptables already, and at that number of connections).

All appears as good as new again now anyway! Happy to help out (general server admin, DNS/HTTP/etc.) in future, if needs be.

There was a firewall/iptables, but it was configured to allow all DNS requests. Now limits to 5 per second from a single address.

May move the DNS elsewhere. Have been testing some stuff out.

Over 8M packets have been dropped by the firewall since my last post.
