JP Fanagan League Div 1 UCD U20A 34 Lansdowne FC 19
Ian Wyse’s men continued their run of good form with a comprehensive win against near-neighbours Lansdowne.
Two close-in tries (separated by a Lansdowne try) in the opening 18 minutes from Sean Molony set the tone and Ronan O’Byrne bagged his try in first-half time-added-on to leave the half-time score UCD 17 Lansdowne 7.
A Lansdowne yellow card after 48 minutes weakened the visitors defence and Ross Deegan ran in under the post (24-7). A James Tarrant 53rd minute penalty stretched the Collidge lead (27-7). A Lansdowne try on 68 minutes reduced the lead (27-12). A sublime James Tarrant touch-finder deep inside the Lansdowne 22 on 72 minutes prompted a quick throw-in which was fumbled and Marc Baker was quickest to react to touch down the loose ball (34-12). Lansdowne scored again with the last play of the match.
Full-time: UCD 34 Lansdowne 19.

So how does the McCorry cup work if the top 4 teams (in league) are also playing Fraser McMullen pretty much at the same time. Do they send out 2nds, how does that work if they have a 2nds team in the league (Div 2 or 3) and those leagues are still playing? According to Leinster Rugby site, Trinity conceeded their 1st round McCorry Cup match last year and Lansdowne after topping the league went out to Barnhall who were playing in the Prem 2 league.
It seems like they are compressing both cup competitions in to the same time slot

UCD U20 side from last weekend:
15 Aaron O’Sullivan; 14 Ross Deegan; 13 Harry Donnelly; 12 Marc Baker; 11 Chris Egan; 10 James Tarrant; 9 Shane Murphy;
1. Chris Hennesy; 2 Sean Moloney; 3 Ronan O’Byrne; 4 Conor Moore; 5 Cory Corr; 6 John Fairley; 7 Mark Fleming; 8 Dan O’Donovan.
Replacements: 16 Richie Bergin; 17 Evin Coyle; 18 Jon Landers; 19 Robin Stokes; 20 Tadhg Murtagh; 21 Luke Maloney; 22 Alex O’Grady.
The postponed Rock 7 v 43 UCD and Terenure 10 - 22 Trinity have now been played. With 2 1 round to go the top 4 are qualifiers for the All Ireland (excluding Ulster) Frazer McMullen cup are Clontarf, Trinity, UCD & Lansdowne. Tarf are guaranteed to be top, Trinity need 1 point from their last game v MU Barnhall to secure 2nd. UCD need 1 point in their home game v's Clontarf. Even if they don't get it, Lansdowne would need 5 points v Terenure and a healthy points difference to get to 3rd.
Munster's league top 4 finished
1. Garryowen
2. UCC
3. Shannon
4. Cork Con
So likely Fraser McMullen Qtr Final will be
1. Clontarf v Cork Con
2. UCC v UCD
3. Trinity v Shannon
4. Garryowen v Lansdowne
with UCC V UCD & Trinity v Shannon repeats of last years QF (with home and away reversed)
SF will be
1 v 2
4 v 3
Hard to know when they are on 'cause there doesnt seem to be any site for the Fraser McMullen competition

Final round of the League was most noteworthy in that UCD beat Clontarf and the Top 4 stay as they were. Clontarf worthy champions even if they lost the last game of the season and missed the perfect season. UCD finish 3rd but the fact that they have beaten Trinity (handsomely) and now beaten Clontarf suggests they will fancy themselves in the Fraser McMullen. Reports suggest that Clontarf have a significant number of injuries and their depth will be tested. So no forgone conclusions to the season yet.
An interesting sub plot is the performance of the Senior AIL Division 1 teams and the impact on the U20’s. Trinitys outstanding win against AIL Div1 leaders on Sat included 8 U20 qualified players in their team. As they are currently in 4th place (playoffs) one imagines that they will prioritise the AIL team over the U20’s. On the other hand UCD look unlikely to either challenge for the AIL playoff and look safe in relation to relegation, so will they drop players back to the U20’s? Did this happen yesterday?
Same issues pertain to Lansdowne, Cork Con, Lansdowne and indeed Garryowen. UCC & Shannon will also be anxious to ensure they stay in AIL Div 1. But I’d imagine the impact is likely to be felt more by the University teams than others.

Is that the Provinces A team's in Boston?
