Tullamore finished 3rd in the league, Towns Cup FInalist and last four in the AIB Junior Cup, pretty sure that makes them the 3rd best team in Leinster. Nico Vorster and Brian Collins are both injured from Boyne.

Do you have knowledge of why the other Seapoint players made themselves unavailable?

Pretty idiotic putting a Spencer Cup, isn't that just a mickey mouse area trophy, ahead of a playing for the Juniors in my opinion. The dogs on the street know that Seapoints seconds would beat Monkstown.

There is 17 players from 1A plus 8 from the best 3 sides in 1B, even allowing for the Seapoint absentees that is still a pretty strong squad.

From munsterrugby.ie
Munster Junior team announced to play Leinster
22 April 2010, 11:41 am
By Olan Allen
The Munster Junior Interprovincial side get their campaign underway this weekend when they travel to Dublin to play Leinster at Seaview rugby grounds.
The weather which caused chaos to the fixture program in December and January has not helped with the preparations of the Munster side and it has only being in the last four weeks that Coach Ian Dunne has been able to assemble a panel.

Munster Junior League champions Richmond do not have any players in the squad as it was decided not to use them because of their involvement in the All Ireland club Interprovincial championship in the last few weeks.

They have trimmed down their panel to twenty nine and they hope that all of this panel will see action over the coming three weeks when following Saturday’s game they play Ulster at Abbeyfeale and finish their championship with a game against Connacht on Saturday 9th May at Ballincollig.

The team picked to play Leinster is a young side with an average age of twenty four and includes nine new caps.

The team is Jerry Martin (Newcastle West);Barry Gibbons (St. Mary’s),Stephen O’Brien (Old Christians),Pat O’Connor (Cashel),David Joyce (Clonmel);Peter Murphy (Kinsale),Micheal Hickey (Cashel);Dave Hogan (St. Mary’s),Darragh Fitzgerald (St. Mary’s),Tom Keaveny (Cobh Pirates);Philip Ryan (Cashel),JJ Frahill (Cobh Pirates);
Joe McSweeney (Waterpark), Barry Wright (Kinsale), Tadgh Wright (Kinsale).

Replacements: Barry Moloney (Cashel), Trevor Downes (Kilrush), Martin Clifford (Cobh Pirates), Jack O’Sullivan (Kilfeacle & District), Michael Twohig (Kanturk), Diarmuid O’Connor (Cashel).

I see on mf.com they're not happy with their squad either

Studies, injuries and personal commitments, been a long season for them and they still have to pick up the Spencer trophy tonight. It would have been nice for the Juniors to have them consideing the game is been played in Seapoint but c'est la vie but I'm sure the team picked will be very strong.

i'm personally not sure what all the hype is. between what i've read here and on knockon.ie, the leinster champs, top 3 in ulster and munster champs aren't putting any value in it either.

is a good honour for the lads involved, and i think they've got the selection policy as close as they'll ever get it. but i imagine these matches won't come close to rivaling the intensity of the round robin games.

and i think if any seapoint lads have picked the spencer over this, i think they're right. they've played there hearts out and all the sacrificies that go with it, 14 league and 3 round robin games unbeaten, is some achievement can't blame them for wanting one last blow out and put their feet up after an incredible year. i imagine they won't be at full strenght for the spencer, but should still win.

Team seems to picked on form although 4 from Enniscorthy seems excessive although they did only lose 1 game in 2010 and a last minute try at that to Boyne in Boyne. Dundalk, Boyne, Enniscorthy, Newbridge and Portarlington have all had great seasons probably fair that they provide 10 of the starting team, confidence is hard to coach. Very strong looking bench too. Comparing it to last years team the backs look a lot stronger particular in the middle of the park, not sure about the pack though, hopefully they can win enough possession.

Last years team

LEINSTER JUNIORS:

15: Karl Manning (Navan)
14: Stephen McGee (Dundalk)
13: Darren Guest (Dundalk) *
12: Daragh Fitzgerald (Railway Union) *
11: Simon Donnelly (Navan)
10: Kevin O'Brien (Railway Union) *
9: Richie Hughes (Tullamore)

1: Eoin King (Navan)
2: Stephen Verso (Seapoint) *
3: Ciaran Brannigan (Dundalk) *
4: Ronan Bolger (Tullow) *
5: Marcus Stewart (Monkstown) *
6: Nico Vorster (Boyne) *
7: Bernard Smyth (Navan) CAPTAIN
8: Donal Milne (Tullamore) *

Four enniscorty might be a bit of the heavy side alright but when you consider that they didnt lose a match all year you could say the same about coolmine and they didnt even have a forward in the 53
The coach knows them and he has faith in them so im sure they will perform
Bench looks strong but looks like verso is being carried as a back row intresting to see that the 3 front row rule applies espc when it doesnt at junior level

From talking to the lads who played we started well and finished well shite inbetween and Damien Broughall was the most impressive player from Leinster.

From home site
It was a game of four quarters with Leinster having the upper hand in the first and last but Munster dominated the middle two either side of half time.

Leinster started brightly and after a turn-over in midfield, Gearoid McDonald and Barry Lynn combined nicely to put Richard Dunne through a gap where he outpaced the cover to touch now, McDonald added the extra points. Shortly after, Munster conceded a penalty inside their own half with McDonald kicking a superb 40m kick to give Leinster a 10 point lead. Leinster tried to push on but a resolute defence from Munster well marshalled by Pat O’Connor forced Leinster back and Munster were starting to win the break-down battle with Leinster players getting isolated from their support.

Munster were growing in confidence and their blindside probing was working well with their back-row making the hard yards. Munster were raising the tempo with scrum-half Michael Hickey in particular leading the charge with his tap and goes from penalties and free kicks. Leinster suffered a blow when Gearoid McDonald took a knock shortly before half time to be replaced by Willie Canavan.

The key turning point in the first half came after John Phelan won a turnover for Leinster on the Leinster 5m line, Niall O’Donoghue hit a monster clearance that went the complete length of the pitch over the Munster dead-ball line resulting in an attacking 5m scrum for Munster. The impressive Hogan picked and was held short but Munster recycled and after a couple of phases crashed over the line near the posts leaving the score line 10-7 in Leinster’s favour at half time but turning around into a strong wind.

Munster continued the 2nd half as they finished the first and pinned Leinster back deep into their 22, Munster were frivolous with this territory and possession and wasted some good opportunities with ball in hand and from the boot, they did however score a good try and penalty to lead by 15-10 with 20 to go. Leinster Coach Declan O’Brien rang the changes with James Clifford, Ger Moore Damien Broughall and Gavin Kennedy all coming on to telling affect. All of a sudden Munster were on the back-foot with surging runs from Broughall and Brendan Kelly giving Leinster momentum.

With 10 minutes to go Canavan chipped through and Richard Dunne won the race to collect the bouncing ball and touched down in the corner. Leinster were looking for the win but Munster’s defence was scrambling well and they held on for the draw as Leinster ran out of time, a fair result after a pulsating 80 minutes of rugby. Best for Leinster were Eamon Hyland and John Phelan up front, with Barry Lynn, Bevan Duffy and Niall O’Donoghue the pick of the outside backs.

The game itself was played in a fantastic spirit and both sides were a credit to their leagues. The Leinster Junior management and coaching would like to thank Seapoint for their excellent facilities in the build-up and on the day of the game.

Don't see Broughals name as being one of the stand out players for Leinster. He'd be kind of hard to miss on the pitch if he was the most impressive! That wouldn't be a bit of CD talking up one of their own would it?? :D When is the team being announced for the Ulster match?

From speaking to a couple of the boys i heard the Leinster lads had 3 hookers on the bench. clifford, sorghan and verso. Clifford came on after 25minutes and then moved to losse head on the 60 min mark when verso came on he went into the backrow and sorghan went hooker. Would say that verso is the stand out hooker in the league. Pretty sure he is a competent backrow but surley there is better out there than him and hooker should be where he should be
