Coaching Opportunities

Hi guys, just wanted to ask to see if anyone knew of any coaching opportunities going around. I am 17 years old and I am currently playing rugby in a club. Although I love playing rugby and want to continue playing into senior adult rugby I am very interested in becoming involved in coaching rugby and would love to one day hopefully get into professional coaching and make it my career. I suppose the recent hurt felt by all Leinster fans again this year has only increased my motivation to hopefully deliver for Leinster one day wether that is on/off the pitch. Just wondering are there any opportunities going around that would enable me to gain qualifications/experience that would benefit me in future. I have already looked into this myself btw and I'm aware of coaching at the Leinster Rugby Summer Camps. However, you need to be at least 18 for this. So I'd have to wait until next year to apply. I am also doing online modules from World Rugby such as Laws of the Game module. Talk to people in your club. Get coaching in your club be it minis or youngest youths grades. Watch as much games as you can.

The laws of the game module is grand and anyone doing coaching courses, especially those aimed at coaching the higher levels of game, must complete that as part of course

Agree with OL, start off in your own club coaching minis and early stage youths. I'd suggest doing the introductory Leinster coaching courses. They are a start and then this time next year you might be in line to do the senior coaching course. Final bit of advice, walk before you can run. There is a big difference between knowing rugby and coaching it. Learn all the time. Be a magpie, steal from everyone else even little things like getting in early to games to watch how the pro's do their warm ups. It all helps.

Give a thought to doing a referee's course which can be arranged through your local club and as with coaching, start with minis and progress from there.

There is a huge shortage of refs, without whom the game can't survive.
