Eir have all sports channels for €1 p/m for 3 months with sky. €27 p/m thereafter.

I know nothing about it as I don't have Sky. Just saw the deal there

That now makes it cheaper to get it for 9 months and cancel for the summer. 6 x 27.50 + 3 x 1

Apparently the deal ended at the end of July. Before it was even spotted. They ran the add well into August.

I have cancelled my Sky Sports as they have lost the rights to the HC. I am a Virgin customer but they dont have access to EIR, BT or Premier Sports. So from reading the above the simplest option to access Pro14 & HC is to switch my TV provider to Sky but it is going to be expensive to add Eir & BT I presume. I dont want to use any of the dodgy streaming sites.

If you are out of contract with Virgin. The best option is probably Eir for broadband and Sky for tv. You get Eir Sports and Bt sports as part of the package. (Providing you live near a fibre enabled Eir cabinet) Eir allow you to put the sports channels on your Sky box as part of the package.

You are stuck at 100MB broadband but that shouldn't be a problem for the vast majority.

Does anyone know if you can stream the eir sports app (from eir mobile) using Apple TV? Apparently its not Chromecast enabled from the mobile app.

Downside is I think Eir TV is a distant 3rd behind Sky and Virgin from a quality/reliability pov. (Only from hearsay as I have only ever had the other 2)

Parents have it in the house about 2 - 3 years. Remote control is cr@p. So bad in fact I would never consider it for my house.

Box is slow to change channels but picture is good. But the remote.

My Mum likes it but it is her first recording tv device but agrees Sky in my sisters houses is better. She hates the remote too.

I would rate my free to air (humax) box and Sky far ahead of it. I have no experience of Virgin.

The obvious fly in the ointment is the remote. I can't believe I didn't mention it. It is small with fiddley buttons that feels cheap and plasticy and has to be pointed at the box to work. Won't work in the general direction but really needs to be pointed at the box.

All in all I would avoid. My Dad would too but it is the sitting room and he watches telly in a spare bedroom. He would never have it in there.

He has a recording Soarview box but rarely uses it. More about quality of stations and content than the box.

Also has a Humax Free to Air box for UK stations.

I may be wrong but I think they get Eir Tv for less than €10 a month so it doesn't break the bank.

So if you don't have sky and you don't have eircom broadband then you can't get eirsport.
Plus you can't get premier sport because they don't sell into Ireland.

I'm surprised that it doesn't break anti-competitive practice rules as Eir appear to be offering a package to Sky that they wont offer to Virgin. If it is VM that are holding things up why don't Eir simply sell it as an online package?
