I'd say she'll have some amount of nasal congestion tomorrow morning now that that's all done and dusted.

Christ, they're all at it...... Ahern, Dempsey, Killeen all go after Harney.

Four posts along with Hanafin's and Martin's posts.

Not long now.

FIANNA FÁIL TD Mary O’Rourke has proposed the publication of a party “catechism” to equip canvassers with answers to anticipated questions from voters on the doorsteps during the general election campaign.

The “questions and answers” booklet would enable Fianna Fáil activists to recite responses about party doctrine and explain the detail of controversial Government policies, the Longford– Westmeath TD suggested.

“It’s not a religious catechism, may I say, but a ‘questions and answers’ catechism for canvassers. It’s information for canvassers as we embark on our campaign. I thought it would be useful,” Ms O’Rourke said.

Topics could include the bank bailout, subordinated debt and other economic policies, as well as information about recent developments on the educational and social fronts. Asked if she would draft the Fianna Fáil catechism herself, Mrs O’Rourke said she would be asking party headquarters to take on the job.

“Whoever is devising our electoral strategy should devise an uncomplicated catechism whereby all will be able to answer the most likely type of questions put to canvassers.”

A motion proposing the catechism was on the agenda of this week’s parliamentary party meeting, but was not discussed because the event was dominated by the vote of confidence in party leader Brian Cowen.

“It was just a practical kind of motion, nothing deep or extraordinary about it,” Mrs O’Rourke said.

So Mary O' Rourke doesn't want anyone from FF thinking for themselves or expressing a shared annoyance at the way the party has crippled the country? Instead it's "spread the spin". Does she not realise the electorate are sick to death of meaningless spin? Then again, going forward she probably doesn't accept that.

Is there any point in appointing five new Ministers who will only actually hold the post for six weeks or so?

Will that qualify them for a ministerial pension? If so, then I can understand it!

I think the constitution deems that they must be appointed.

Pensions kick in after 30 months, but this is accumulated time, so if they were previous ministers or served as junior ministers then this 6 weeks is added to time served so to speak.

What could new ministers possibly achieve in six weeks? Especially when they are concentrating on an election campaign.

I'll check the constitution but the alternative is an election.

The Constitution says a government of 7-15. No mention of portfolios. I believe there are 10 left so constitutionally we're fine.

More rest, given that they will now be the "Star in the Car" being driving in a high class Merc by their Garda Driver.

Sickeningly cynical tactic by Cowan who knew well that this was coming when he was on the radio with the poor mouth only days ago but back to his Biffo best yesterday only for this to come out last night.

in theory O'Rourke's idea isnt too bad, im sick of asking canvassers questions about party policy on something and being hummed and hawed at then being directed to their website. But of course if it come to be it will just be another pravda

Can they just pass the finance bill and fock off already? they've had plenty of time to pass other legislation, but like the pack of amateurish school children they are they've left it all to the last minute.

Dáil suspended until 1.30. Greens expected to make a statement.

Could this be it?

Probably just another spineless climbdown statement to be made by them: "we will be engaging with the Taoiseach to determine what is the best way forward for us as a party and for the people of Ireland. We will be looking for timelines regarding bills that have been put before the hosue and are fully committed... blah blah blah"

Just f**k off, you spineless b@stards.

BRING.

IT.

ON.

Perhaps we should change the thread title to "General Election 2011".
Gonna be an interesting few weeks as people debate the issues and look at each party's agenda.

So you have a decent sitting FF TD up for GE11. They seem to be decent & hardworking and there has been some good Local Govt input into your locality. (lights / parks / playgrounds etc)

Do you vote for the FF TD or screw them as they are guilty by association?
