I don't ever remember a concert lowering prices closer to the date due to low demand. Airlines and hotels have a history of adjusting prices before they ever got into algorithmic pricing.
I haven't noticed the price of Leinster tickets going up or down for the same date.
The bait and switch isn't new, the extent of the gouging is stunning. Of course if they'd advertised their true price they would have scared off some of their initial purchasers. Making the marks wait hours is a necessary part of the scam: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bait-and-switch

Some of the more "radical" (see feckless) members of the government in the UK are calling for Ticketmaster to be nationalised.
