where did you play?
hey,
I've just realised that I've made an assumption that most posters on here played or still play.
I'm curious to know what positions y'all played
I played mostly LH Prop, but I did actually square up to Conor McGuinness at scrum half once - I couldn't pass for shite, but I ran over him at least a half dozen times
here's some guesses I've made:
RoboProp - TH prop
D Cahill - LH Prop, the short clever posts give it away
JohnG - 6 or 7, but probably always wanted to play in the centre?
Mauler - Second Row but I actually do know this - 'cause I've met him and he's frickin HUGE - like Jason Jenkins Huge and he also told me he used play second row so this one's not a guess
Donny B - LH Prop
Backrower8 - probably 8?
LRIP (late of this parish) - LH Prop
Observingprop123 - I'm gonna guess LH Prop
Oldschool - probabably a hooker
Xanthippe - I reckon probably a 9 at heart (jk Xan I'd say you could play anywhere on the pitch)
Cormac - I'm gonna go with centre on this one
Neil Og - I reckon Second Row 'cause he's well over 6 foot
Paddy O'R - has to look lf a 6 to me
M#1 - I'm gonna say 7 or 9 - he may have told us already but can't say I remember
Dexter - has to be front row - fabulous name and avatar
PegLeg - I'm gonna go with 9
Hugo - has to be winger, his voice is far to youthful for him to have seen heavy action
IanD - I'd say backrow
ronk - probably 10
433 - I don't know but I think somewhere in the front 5
blockhead - obviously a hooker or a scrum half,
sorry if I've left anyone out but I've had a few jars and you prob know the rest

Re: where did you play?
Close, I was a specialist tighthead for about 25 years and I played less than dozen games at loosehead, it was strange.
Re: where did you play?
Hugonaut - hooker, openside, scrumhalf ... unusual combination, I know. Spread over a number of years. I will make the argument until I croak that openside and scrum-half have a lot of similarities. Also, I was about the same size as a 15-year old as I am these days.
This also explains my repetitive defenses of both hookers and scrum-halves, particularly Luke McGrath. What an absolute warrior he is.
Ronk must have been a prop.

Re: where did you play?
Started as a TH, moved to LH when started playing senior rugby, then shifted across to TH after the laws on wheeling the scrum changed from automatic turnover to reset. Floated around both but after tearing my ACL and coming back I just couldn't handle the second row through my leg for some reason, so stuck with TH thereafter.
Also one game at second row.

Re: where did you play?
Played winger my first season to learn the game as I came from a soccer background and then backrow after. Always at 6 or 7 never at 8 for some reason.
Re: where did you play?
SR mostly, both sides and No8 - A difficult position to play tbh.
Mirror, Mirror on the Wall who's the greatest player of them all? It is Drico your majesty.
Re: where did you play?
Was never near a scrum in my life. Didn't play much rugby but when I did it was back 3.
Dont Panic!
Re: where did you play?
Centre up to about 14 and then second row after that mainly (when I wasn't in A&E with my shoulders)

I like your right leg. A lovely leg for the role.
I've got nothing against your right leg.
The trouble is ... neither have you

Re: where did you play?
Played at Number 8 once for my College and due to injuries once for Wicklow Under 18s.
Not sure that makes me a seasoned Back Row.
Started at 16 on the wing and ended up training more than I played at Hooker.
In fairness my College was Colaiste Ide in Finglas and we were the first ever team.

Re: where did you play?
wing and full back.
Re: where did you play?
Haha I wish!!! I’ve had osteoarthritis since I was young which always made me less of a taking part person and more of a sitting on the sidelines watching and taking notes person. Stats are my sport

Re: where did you play?
8 was where I liked playing but they stuck me in the second row.
One of the many reasons I gave up playing before I left school.
So pretty close there. I loved hopping up off the back of a scrum and running over centres.

Re: where did you play?
I only ever played hooker at school, college and club and loved it, particularly getting strikes against the head, which you don't see anymore due to the crooked feed having been legalised.

TH prop! Retired for a few seasons but planning a return as a hooker or backrow(I've lost 30kg since the prop days).

Re: where did you play?
I was at the checkout in M&S a few years back and got chatting to a lad who played for Tallaght Rugby, I wistfully suggested that I was thinking of going back and maybe playing junior rugby. There was an auld lad behind me who gently said “You probably shouldn’t do that”Observingprop123 wrote: ↑May 15th, 2023, 12:27 am TH prop! He definitely wasn’t wrong…
Re: where did you play?
Growing up my 2 favourite players were Darcy and David Wallace, so I always wanted to play 12 or 7.
I played most of my underage rugby and first couple of seasons with the firsts at 12, before graduating to the pack as a 7 who filled in at 8.
Stopped playing for a few seasons, before returning to figure out that I was far too slow to be a backrow so played a good bit in the second row.
I sometimes tog out as a second row for a local team when they are really, really stuck.

Just because a post upsets you, that doesn’t mean that it is wrong. People have different views in all aspects of life, this is a key ingredient to an interesting conversation.
Re: where did you play?
I played mostly as a 9, with occasional starts at 10.
Re: where did you play?
Played 10. But I was a captain. Of the Gs. If I recall correctly (this was in school), we didn't even have enough players to field a full team. Glory days.
