He will be a year 2 player next year.

James French rumour still out there.

Assume Warwick will play TH.

Hope French is confirmed soon. While Warwick can play TH a club with ambitions like Ulster shouldn't be relying on him for that position. Have you seen Wilson play? I heard he's meant to be a beast.

No more signings to be announced apparently (McFarland said as much at a fans Q&A). Do agree that 2 senior THPs (one usually with Ireland and one with injury issues) is a bold strategy to say the least....

Just updating the Ulster knockout record

21/22 P3 W1
20/21 P3 W2
19/20 P3 W1
18/19 P3 W1

7 of the 23 from tonight are leaving. Rebuilding to be done.

Pretty sure McFarland could be shown the door after that game. Ulster have a lot of potential that people feel is been squandered. The same weaknesses from before are still there and haven't been addressed. A new voice is probably needed.

They're very thin at THP when you consider Marty Moore's injuries and the fact O'Toole will be at the RWC.

Any idea if Craig Gilroy did get something or ended up retiring in the end?

Ulster, and in particular, Dan McFarland, are really sitting on Aaron Sexton. The guy never plays.

Peter O'Reilly wrote an article in the Sunday Times about Irish wingers and a lack of pace, and I was surprised that he didn't mention Sexton in it, even in passing. He's got a properly timed 10.4 100m to his name: he is literally the fastest player to ever play provincial rugby in this country.

I thought that it was a glaring omission. I then reflected on just how few chances McFarland gives him.

Ulster brought him into the academy before the 2019-20 season [source: https://www.independent.ie/sport/rugby/ ... 38154.html ], announced that he was going to a development deal for next season in January 2021 – so for the 2021-22 season [source: https://www.independent.ie/sport/rugby/ ... 09159.html] - and that that deal would automatically become a senior deal for the 2022-23 season. He signed a renewal in April 2023 to keep him at Ulster until the end of the 2024-25 season.

2019-20: 0+0 [0 mins] - Academy Year 1
2020-21: 0+1 [72 mins] - Academy Year 2
2021-22: 0+2 [28 mins] - Development Contract
2022-23: 3+2 [233 mins] - Senior Contract
2023-24: 1+0 [80 mins] - Senior Contract

A lot of that is about how ever present the first choices are.

Stockdale and Baloucoune have 21 starts between them in 12 games this season.

Three mauls off five-yard lineouts and Ulster haven't managed to get over the line each time.

And get hit by a sucker-punch Quins try out of their own 22. Fantastic play by Lynagh óg. 14-7 26 mins.

Shambolic stuff from Ulster. Totally dominated possession and territory and they’re losing 14-7 because they’ve completely tuned out from a quick lineout and tap.
