He said: “I just want things to change. Rugby needs to understand the problem and stop lying about it. There is a crisis. I’m f*****. But this is for the sake of the next guy.”
He added: “I never really knew what a concussion was — I thought it was being out cold. No. It can be any hit on the head. That happened almost every day in my career — I passed out so many times on the scrum machine. I did 100 scrums in a day once. The boys would say, ‘He is having a nap’ and carry on.”
It's really maddening that this has happened to past players and could be happening to current players, meanwhile World Rugby are considering 20 minute reds and the SH unions are regularly downgrading red cards from high and spear tackles in disciplinaries.
Just purely ignorant thinking by those in charge and the game as a whole will pay for it.

When you hear these stories it really drives home how lax some of the refs have been. In the Argentina game one of their players made a bad high tackle in the lead up to a try and then another dived in and his knee connected with the try scorer's head but both incidents were ignored, I don't think the latter was even mentioned.

I’m in flitters after reading this story. Whatever about the diagnosis the treatment of the player and family was and is f%~king shocking.

How did Leinster Rugby allow Jackman to continue if he had a concussion every week? He says that he had 25 concussions in his last season.
He also said he hid them, so there's some excuse, but the environment and staff should have been looking out for them.

Players would "game" the baseline tests they did in preseason to give them wiggle room if they got a concussion during the season so it wouldn't look so bad

I predict that the SRU will come out at a significant loss on this, WR less so as at least they have recommendations and processes which the SRU clearly didn't follow.
The issues around head injury, and the long term effects on players is very worrying.
Of course it is worrying for the individuals who are currently living it.
Having had a close family member suffer from dementia (non rugby related) and Witnessing their deteriorating, I can tell you that this is one of the most horrendous diseases around.
it strips the sufferer of their identity, and leaves their family in a sense of limbo as the slowly watch their loved one slip away.
But, this will also have a massive impact on the viability of the sport.
The Unions, who have already suffered signify losses over the last couple of years, now face legal bills and claim payments to the tune of millions.
We currently have players in the Irish squad who have had such significant head injuries that they have had sustained periods out of the game, and given that as few as 3 concussions can lead to long term brain damage, there is a strong possibility that the unions payouts could become a fairly regular occurrence.
The unions and World rugby need to sit down and think of a way to really tackle the issues.
Loughman is a great example of how the current measures are inadequate.
I would imagine that rugby will turn to technology, perhaps using monitors to monitor the g-force impacted on a persons head/neck area.
This along with greater and more consistent policing around contact with a players head/neck area.
Just because a post upsets you, that doesn’t mean that it is wrong. People have different views in all aspects of life, this is a key ingredient to an interesting conversation.
I don't believe it's appropriate to comment on any individual player as:
a) I'm not a Medical specialist in the field; and
b) the medical history has not been released to the public.
If half of this is true there are certain people in the SRU who should be fired and never let work in Rugby again. They know the science, it's proven, this is just callous disregard for a human life.
