I like Mark Robson too. He's very entertaining. Poor Darren Cave couldn't keep up with him....Fan with smartphone wrote: ↑October 2nd, 2021, 6:17 pm Doak’s emergence really means that Ulster should be looking at a play making or running threat 10 rather than a kicking one. They’ve now got 2 very similar 9s which maybe is a problem for a change up as substitutions, but is great to have 2 goal kicking 9s. It is especially relevant when you think of Lowry wanting to develop at 10 (whether that’s the right or wrong move for him). With the amount of box kicking these days, it’s a wonder there aren’t more place kicking specialist 9s.
Ps: really enjoying Mark Robson and Darren cave on commentary. There’s been some quite funny ribbing Of Andrew Trimble, Robson then misread a Zebre penalty - gave it the absolute works and was very self effacing in his climb down, he’s been funny too - many have tried as commentators to be funny, few succeed.

There are place kicking 9s. They just defer to the place kicking 10s most of the time, like Murray.

Remembered the other word they used at the end of the first half to describe Hume. Ringrosian. Made me laugh, especially because Farrell playing out in Connacht also reminds me of Ringrose so much.

Good to have the Ulster games back on BBC NI. They've even dusted down Jim Neilly to do the commentary.
Look out Itchy, he's Irish

Jim Neilly is Friday Night Rugby

I realise he was on a bit of a hiding to nothing but there was no way Craig Gilroy was going to make a tackle there.

Poor enough fare though if we're being honest. Benetton offered little.
Re: Ulster 2021/22
Benetton changed 11starting players from previous match so wouldn't be too hard on them.betty swallocks wrote: ↑October 9th, 2021, 11:15 am Poor enough fare though if we're being honest. Benetton offered little.

Nice lineout move there from Ulster for Timoney's try.

Re: Ulster 2021/22
Herring has been excellent
Re: Ulster 2021/22
Yeah, he has looked great. It's really difficult to quantify what getting capped can do to a player's form – cap a player at the right time and you can see his confidence go through the roof. The narrative around him changes, everything becomes very positive and for a few months or half a season or a full season it's just a spiral of improvement and fulfilment. Think of Stockdale from June 2017 through to November 2018 – the sky was the limit.
On the other hand, ignore a player in great form and people think that there's something wrong with him ... even when there's obviously nothing wrong with him! Listening to the commentary about young Doak this evening, I couldn't get over how Johnny Cooney was, if not quite written out, certainly having his recent role in Ulster's history revised. So many references to Doak as Pienaar's successor.
My hot take is that Cooney has been a better No9, a better player and a bigger contributor for Ulster than Pienaar was. But because he was [bizarrely] overlooked by successive Irish coaches, and because he was a provincial transplant, and because he wound up in Ulster rather than Munster, he didn't – and now won't – get the credit his awesome form should have earned him. Now you have two scrum-halves in Casey and Doak in Munster and Ulster respectively who are the sons of former players and coaches [Ger and Neil] and there is a lot of media noise gathering behind them.

Ulster win with a BP but they had to work for it.
Will Addison, what can you say, poor effin lad.
He's a damn fine player who just cant catch a break.
Nick Timoney agreed, played very well.

That's about as freakish an injury as you'll ever see.

Cian Tracy:
Dan McFarland confirms Will Addison fractured his leg in last week's win over the Lions.
Addison had surgery yesterday, which went well. Too early to say how long he faces out.
Brutal luck.

Jaysus, its between him and RGS as to who is the unluckiest player in Ireland - hope he makes a full recovery, he's a fine player than I really enjoy watching
