Castres 24-18 Toulouse FT.

Toulouse made fast start, but Castres are old skool and got back into it and out fought Toulouse over the 80 minutes with the youthful Urdapilleta at 10.

Munster now have 50/50 shot of drawing Toulouse in Heineken Cup next season.

Arguably, the Six least entertaining teams in the three NH Leagues qualified for the three finals. Montpellier come through to play Castres, following the Prem kick-fest between Leicester & Sarries and the all SA URC final of Bulls & Stormers. Certainly doesn't look too encouraging for teams who want to entertain and win.

My view is obviously jaundiced by how they approach the Heineken Cup but it's hard to believe that Castres and Montpellier are the two best teams in France

Harsh on Stormers

Despite the one-sided scoreline, this was a game worthy of review. Montpellier surprised Castres from the outset with some superb passing, handling and running, rather than merely bish, bosh boom.

They scored two great tries, went ahead by 20 points and then retired that game. That allowed Castres to get some possession and they played their characteristic hard-nosed possession based game but just had insufficient threats to overcome the Montpellier defence. They had three tries turned down and anyone of those could have altered the outcome.

The passion of both teams was evident, far more than either of the other two NH Leagues. However, so was the presence of eight enormous props - think 135-140kgs - and without those no pack has a chance of winning a Brennus shield. A good contest but only one winner from just after half-time.
