Shows you how easily it can go tragically wrong.
No correlation between the 2 events apart from "sports star at party incident"
Something bad happened, it could have a lot worse versus it was a lot worse.

Beirne is in line to be starting at 6 for the Lions. In 3 seasons at Munster, he’s started there twice. A win against Saracens (one of their best results in 3 years) and a loss he was injured 10 minutes into. He played in the backrow a lot more for Ireland.

He was a big, big signing, was well known in the backrow and I remember questions being asked at the time about whether he’d be allowed to compete head on with POM.

It’s justifiable if it’s better for the team, but it’s not like Munster have been winning and it’s hard to say it has been better for performances.

I'd say if Snyman had been around this year he would have played 6 more.

Well they had 2 years to try him and they never gave any indication they say him as a 6, even after finding Snyman.

Presumably Coombes would have barely played if that was the plan anyway.

He's a lock/flanker isn't he? Plays both sides but he'd be a like for like with Beirne if he came to Ireland.

He does more flanking than locking.

Munster academy:
3 in, 10 out. Academy is down to 11 players.

They're gonna feel this in a few years.

Ian Costello is in charge of the academy now. Hopefully he can do something with the situation in limerick. To say there's a drought of talent is an understatement. "Home of rugby" and they struggle to get more than 1 player onto an ireland u20 squad for years. Places like west Cork and Waterford is balancing it out but things could be much better if limerick could supply a few quality players per year.

What would you suggest he do/think he should be doing in Limerick to change things?

It sounds like not much has been done. They need to organise proper pathways for players to come through. Hurling did it in limerick.

And what are these proper pathways then? What do suggest be changed for Limerick alone that wont affect the other areas of the province?

Paddy Patterson also joining the Munster academy supposedly.

I know this isn’t a problem confined to Munster, but I’d say the lack of underage/schools rugby would have had an affect on the academy intake.

This is just the first announcement of intakes, I would suspect that we will see a few more announcements over the coming months.

Also, the academy should be commended on 9 out of 10 graduates deemed worthy of a pro contract with Munster.
It is unlikely that each of these 9 players will go on to become club legends, but given the negative sentiment towards the Munster academy, this would appear to be a step in the right direction.
