If Munster get a good player for two years then what's the problem? We've benefited from players moving to English clubs and coming back.

cos we are not as big as England and hence cannot afford to be a finishing school. Alternatively lets just give up on international rugby and get the provinces competitive with foreign players.

Should the provinces only be signing NIQs whose international careers are over then?

If Stander can improve Munster's work at the breakdown and get them on the front more often then the knock on effect for POM, Butler, DOC2.0, Murray and JJ could be huge and that benefits Munster as a team and then Ireland as well. Let's not pretend that there's only one part of this story, namely that it benefits SA, there are two sides to the argument and his presence has the possibility of benefiting Irish rugby hugely.

My own opinion is that he is a project player btw, don't really see why he'd come up here now if he wasn't.

Just one thing tho' Is this a recent or relatively recent realization or have you always held this view?

BTW The other reason we are at the bottom of the barrel is that we don't develop our international squad. Hayes is a very good example of this.
We have always done this. In the past Ireland consistently topped the most capped player of all time charts.
We have always held onto players too long and not develop their ready made replacements. McBride, Gibson, Slattery are examples.
These guys replacements were due for retirement themselves by the time they got a chance.
And to repeat myself, we are still doing in an era where the attrition rate is much higher and therefore the need for replacements is much greater.
somebody should tell the IRFU and the Irish coach about this revolutionary new idea that has spread thru the rest of the rugby world.
