Rees-Sammit scores a BPT for Wales at the death. Fair play to them for sticking in it. FT: 41-28.

Re: 6 Nations 2023 - The Other Teams
I was looking through various selections for a combined team of the tournament, and I was struck by the standard of LHs across the competition. Schoeman, Porter, Baille, Genge and, to a slightly lesser extent, Fischetti are all really excellent No1s.
On the other side of the scrum, the pickings were much slimmer. I don't think that there was a standout. There's a big discrepancy in terms of salary across the scrum [LHs being one of the lowest paid positions in the three league, TH being one of the highest paid], so it's interesting to me that not all the talent is migrating from the left hand side of the scrum to the right hand side.

From my non-elite playing experience (J3 was my highest level) loosehead is neither as taxing nor as technical a position as tight head - by a significant enough margin. I’d say tht’s your main reason…hugonaut wrote: ↑March 20th, 2023, 2:39 pm I was looking through various selections for a combined team of the tournament, and I was struck by the standard of LHs across the competition. Trying to bring a scrum down as low as you can go and still stay standing against two opposition players is easier than trying to keep a scrum up against one. Simples.Oldschoolsocks wrote: ↑March 20th, 2023, 4:40 pmFrom my non-elite playing experience (J3 was my highest level) loosehead is neither as taxing nor as technical a position as tight head - by a significant enough margin. Re: 6 Nations 2023 - The Other Teams
Looseheads are failed tightheads, inside centres are failed outside centres (or outhalves), wingers are failed fullbacks: all common tropes that miss the value of someone who’s good at their position.
Of course the ease with which a lot of the depth chart has switched sides at various points makes somewhat of a mockery of the idea of specialisation. Good looseheads make a big difference.

For approximately 50 mins, Algheri gave a perfect exhibition of Tight-head scrummaging against Genge in the Eng v Fr game. He doesn't have the bulk of Antonio, or that man's handling and carrying skills, but is a true technician to a very high standard. It would be wonderful to think that Tom O'Toole might be coached up to the same technical proficiency. He would then be a true potential successor to Furlong.

Watson rumoured to be off abroad post RWC. So Thats
Willis, Ribbans,Simmonds, Cowan-dickie, Marchant, Nowell Watson. Depending on his contract I could see Tuilagi taking a pay day in Japan. Getting to Welsh levels of Exodus now.

Ruddock's tackle stats consistently too low for me to be taken seriously as a Six Nations blindside..... Ruddock's defensive stats don't stack up. - All Blacks Nil, Jan 15th, 2014
England A 8 - 14 Ireland A, 25th Jan 2014

This is the first indication that some in Wales understand both the problem and know the solution

Interesting read. This stood out for me:
The regions also has a 20 million loan to pay off. The regions will pay it back at £1m per year over a 20-year period. You have to figure that could hamstring them for a long time to come.Scarlets head coach Dwayne Peel expects to see his current 50-strong squad reduced to as few as 38 for next season.

Imagine having to pay a Finn Russell a year for 20 years.sunshiner1 wrote: ↑March 29th, 2023, 12:10 pm Interesting read. This stood out for me:

That is almost as scary as paying Finn Russell a million quid a year.

I see they have withdrawn from the Premiership (AIL ) with a view to developing those players
