So six Ulster forwards in starting Squad. That's great to see. Six Munster lads in the match-day Squad is also a good trend. Maybe the Provincial Academies are all beginning to function as they should. The inclusion of three Exiles is also an excellent trend.

I might regret these words but at this stage it looks like the rock cup winners would beat Scotland 20's

Anyone know what they are playing for here? its a play off for what?

edit: just another match but with no real purpose it appears. 7th - 8th place playoff (daft group structure). Last game of the tournament for us.

Yeah it was just about getting games for young fellas who missed a lot of rugby due to the pandemic. Thought they did well in terms of making those games meaningful by putting us, France, England and SA in one group and Wales, Sco, Ita and Georgia in the other but no team in group B could live with any team in Group A.

Ireland playing like drains now. Discipline is shocking.

We have just had a text book example of a "forward pass" called incorrectly. Prendergast hands go clearly back wards while the ball appears to drift forward .

Scotland's best result of the tournament only losing by 17. 14th consecutive defeat for them at this level.

Yeah, big step down on previous performances. In a way it was kind of expected. The Scots were on the receiving end of a hammering by Georgia so they were going to be up for it while Ireland were in a no win situation and as we saw, they looked unmotivated. Got a good start but slacked off.

Thought the Scots did well to make a complete mess of the breakdown. Ireland were far too sluggish getting there.

Not too many highlights from Ireland. Prendergast was the highlight. He is very good at seeing space and putting chips over the defence. He seems to have time on the ball and is composed. His other kicking is a work in progress but he is a talent. And he nearly got an incredible solo try.

Mangan was very good also. Reminds me of a Ruddock type player.

Other scores from the 20s tournament in Italy

France 44-17 Georgia FT
England 31-38 Italy FT
South Africa 47-27 Wales FT

For whatever reason South Africa wore white kit and Wales a black change jersey.

Italy will be happy with that result. This appears to be a strong group for them. Good to see the work inspired by a couple of Irishmen bearing fruit.

Great to see Italy U20s continue their upward trajectory. It’s imperative that World Rugby and the 6 Nations continue to support FIR

Is that to do with colour blindness, recall something a while back that they weren't going to allow red and green kit play against each other.
Doesn't explain both changing though

Edit
Sorry was supposed to be in reply to.

Prendergast really reminds me of a young Pollard. He doesn’t play particularly flat but that’s not a criticism, he’s still a threat himself but mostly he seems to draw players towards him and then is able to pick out long passes or exploit the space in behind with a varied kicking game. He seems to have a great picture of what’s happening and then the skills to pull off whatever is needed.

Apparently bringing in the green/red thing in 2027. Boks v Wales test series in South Africa are wearing their normal jerseys etc.

Very impressed with Hadden, Wilson, McNamee, Crothers, McLoughlin, O'Mahony, Prendergast, King. That's a pretty tidy group, plus the likes of Mangan, O'Tighernaigh, Gibbons, Hawkshaw et al who were solid.

I just saw that Chay Mullins is still listed as being with Bristol for next season so I presume he won’t be joining an Irish province as had been rumoured, are we losing him?
