Does that mean several people that just finished 6th year will be involved?mildlyinterested wrote: ↑May 23rd, 2022, 12:00 pm Richie Murphy’s Ireland Under-20 squad that won a Grand Slam in the recent Six Nations Championship are set to play a further four games in Italy next month in a tournament that will take the place of the Junior World Championship – it will return next year having last been played in 2019 due to the coronavirus pandemic – as a competitive outlet.
South Africa and Georgia will join Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales, France and Italy with each of the countries playing three pool games and a crossover match. The details of the tournament are expected to be announced during the week, but it appears that Ireland will face France, England, and South Africa in their three matches.
While Ireland will take most of the squad that won all five games in the Six Nations, they will also include several Under-19 internationals with a view to giving a handful of highly rated younger players some experience at this level ahead of next season. The Ireland Under-19 team under Kieran Hallett drew 1-1 in a two-match series against France played in Belfast and Dublin last month.
Murphy’s side will definitely be without wing Chay Mullins, who will be with James Topping’s Men’s Sevens squad during the summer.

Re: Ireland U20's 2022
Is there a trophy? Is it intentional that the four best sides are all playing each other, and the four worst sides all playing each other?

Re: Ireland U20's 2022
Ulster 10 (9 forwards / 1 back), Connacht 0, IQ Rugby 2 (2 forwards), Leinster 11 (4 forwards 7 backs), Munster 8 (3 forwards 5 backs).
Re: Ireland U20's 2022
Very encouraging for Ulster with 9/18 forwards, especially as the province is well set in terms of backs. Worrying for Connacht, with zero participants. Is Matthew Devine injured?

Chay Mullins is focusing on Ireland 7's for the moment. Anyone know where he is going too?

Originally Connacht, but Munster have sought to turn his head and he may be off there now.sunshiner1 wrote: ↑June 19th, 2022, 5:38 am Chay Mullins is focusing on Ireland 7's for the moment. Anyone know where he is going too?

Interesting. Of the two teams I'd be picking Connacht but we will see where he lands. Regardless I hope he does well.by betty swallocks

Re: Ireland U20's 2022
Shame about the injuries but in a way it's good. Those players have proved themselves already so now another group get to. I don't see them winning any match but hopefully they will put in a good showing.
Re: Ireland U20's 2022
Yeah, there's a silver lining. If this was a JWC, it'd be really disappointing - the Grand Slammers are a great team and would have an excellent chance of getting to the final. And once in the final, I'd have given them a good shot, because they've come from behind to win in their two toughest games.
However, it seems like a bit of a Rainbow Cup effort, and a one-off tournament just doesn't carry the same weight as an annual. Against that, it has some worth because it's an agegrade competition. Overall, I'd rather have a team in it and give lads a chance to represent their country than to have them toiling in obscurity.
