Re: 6 Nations 2021
I'm with Matt Williams: Baird rewarded for his performance with a starting place in the second row and back row as is with Beirne, Connors and CJ.
Re: 6 Nations 2021
Why break up a well balanced backrow by bringing in O'Mahony? Changes should be at a minimum, Dillane or Baird for Ryan and A.N. Other for Lowe.
Re: 6 Nations 2021
Given they way they stuck with Billy Burns after his bad experience in Cardiff I wouldn’t be surprised if they stick with our Jimmy.
But if they do can we for f%~ks sake give him the ball in a decent attacking position instead of kicking the f%~king thing away

Re: 6 Nations 2021
I can understand keeping Lowe but not a fan of changing the back row or bringing POM back in. This is the game where I think the Beirne at 6 makes the most sense.
Re: 6 Nations 2021
A quick stat re England's attacking game over 70% of their trys in the last 18 months have come from line outs
Against wales they had 5 line outs all game, four from kicks to touch from penalties , only once did wales kick to touch (and that was from a box kick that bounced out)
Granted Ireland are better at stealing opposition line outs but it's something for the irish coaching team to think about

The Matt Williams OTB interview from Tuesday is well worth a listen not just for his calls re the upcoming England match, but also for his pointing out of Genge's illegal boring in at the scrum and his suggestions, as to what the IRFU need to do to get beyond quarter final stages at the RWC.

Having seen what Beirne brings at 6 over the last few weeks, I have to agree with you.Fireworks wrote: ↑March 18th, 2021, 9:57 amI can understand keeping Lowe but not a fan of changing the back row or bringing POM back in. This is the game where I think the Beirne at 6 makes the most sense.
Beirne’s style of play has allowed Connors to largely avoid getting dragged into the breakdown, or at the bottom of a large number of rucks, which allows Connors to select his tackles, and target certain individuals.
However, with Ryan missing, we are missing a top class lineout player.
I think this is where I would agree with bringing POM in.

Re: 6 Nations 2021
Given POM has publicly stated he won't change how he plays the game after his red card, he shouldn't be selected.

Re: 6 Nations 2021
Selecting Baird seems like a bit of a no-brainer to me. I probably would have had a few doubts if the set piece hadn't been functioning so well, but as it is I think you can just drop him in and let him do his thing. We need his athleticism and physicality to try to keep a lid on Itoje. Considering POM's mini renaissance has come at openside and the fact that backrows containing him have struggled in recent games against England I think putting him in at blindside would be flat out poor selection.

On a purely selfish level I hope Lowes not picked. Ireland don't know how to use him so there no point.
Then we might get him back for the Pro 14/16 Final. Winner, Winner chicken dinner

Re: 6 Nations 2021
There are a number of changes to the team that started against Scotland last Sunday starting in the half-backs where Captain Johnny Sexton is joined in by Conor Murray.
Garry Ringrose is ruled out of the side through injury so Bundee Aki slots in at inside centre with Robbie Henshaw shifting to the No.13 jersey.
Jacob Stockdale returns to the team for the first time since the Autumn Nations Cup win over Scotland back in December and is named on the left wing with Keith Earls on and Hugo Keenan completing the back three.
In the front row Dave Kilcoyne starts at loosehead alongside Rob Herring at hooker and Tadhg Furlong at tighthead.
Tadhg Beirne moves into lock to partner Iain Henderson in the absence of the injured James Ryan.
Will Connors was ruled out yesterday with a knee injury in training so Josh van der Flier comes in at openside. CJ Stander moves to 6 for his final Ireland game in Aviva Stadium and Jack Conan is named at No.8.

Re: 6 Nations 2021
It’s not that Ireland don’t know how to use him it’s that James Lowe simply cannot defend. Don’t blame it on the coaches.LeinsterLeader wrote: ↑March 18th, 2021, 2:22 pm On a purely selfish level I hope Lowes not picked. Ireland don't know how to use him so there no point.

Dave Kearney deserves to start ahead of James Lowe.LeinsterLeader wrote: ↑March 18th, 2021, 2:22 pm On a purely selfish level I hope Lowes not picked. Ireland don't know how to use him so there no point.

Not a bad looking squad, and very little to argue about from 1 to 23.Dave Cahill wrote: ↑March 18th, 2021, 3:29 pm 15. Hugo Keenan (Leinster/UCD) 10 caps

Bench has some nice impact.
Big game for Conan. Good chance for him to cement his position in the squad on a permanent basis following the retirement of Stander, although it’s likely to be a bench spot behind Dorris.

Re: 6 Nations 2021
The system that forces wingers to make too many high risk/poor decisions in defence is on them though. Both Easterby and Farrell.
