Connors has one key strength which is to chop tackle big ball carriers, but that is a very limiting role, and can be exploited by the opposition.

That 6-10 would be disappointing, though I would definitely have VdF over Connors

France have 3 over 30 in their 23. Two starters. The oldest is 31. 7 of the French are aged 21-23. 13 are 26 or younger. 10 are 25 or younger.

Ireland will probably have 8 over 30 in the 23. 7 starting. Oldest is 35. We might have 2 x 23 yo if Kelleher & Larmour make it.

I like your right leg. A lovely leg for the role.
I've got nothing against your right leg.
The trouble is ... neither have you

Not sure really. I'm not a fan of POM at 6 so I'd have him at 7 if he's in (probably wouldn't have him in the starting XV to be honest). Similarly with CJ I think he's better at 6 than at 8.
Obviously Doris' issues have thrown a spanner into the works (think Conan should have been called up and put straight in to start) but with the available squad, I would like to see something like (first preference/second preference).

6 Ruddock/CJ
7 VDF/POM
8 Coombes/CJ

I can't really argue with Murray at 9 as he has definitely improved, or Sexton at 10 when Burns or Byrne are backup. But I can still moan about it

Ruddock, CJ, VDF. POM on the bench.

I can see why Faz will stick with POM and it’s not a bad idea. But Ruddock would be a good idea, as would a specialist 7.

I think the financial issues have really impacted on selection.
Any hope that this 6 nations would be used for development was scrapped, and rightly Ireland are likely looking to just finish in the best possible position to make collect as much of the pot as possible.

My issue with Ireland over the last while has been the attitude that we have to field our best team in every 6 nations match or against SA, Aus and NZ.
The attitude, like with the poster above is, who would you have instead, or who deserves to be dropped.

Where we see a player coming through the ranks that looks like he could be a good or great international, we should look to accelerate his progress. I think, I’m general Irish rugby is way too conservative, and injury has been our best development tool to date.
Just because a post upsets you, that doesn’t mean that it is wrong. People have different views in all aspects of life, this is a key ingredient to an interesting conversation.

Larmour, Porter, Stockdale, Ringrose, Doris, Connors, Ryan, Kelleher would probably disagree there.

If guys are good enough to play test level at that age they'll break through.

Healy, Daly, H. Byrne, Casey, Baird and O'Toole look like the next cabs off the rank. All have been around squads and will all get gametime if they can prove they're good enough at lower levels or in camp.

Don't think we'll do well this year picking Past it, Overrated MIA. Can't win big games with 2 players in the back row having to make up for a third chasing highlight reels.

I'm really disappointed to see Rhys' name not included.
