it's not unlimited benches, just extended.ronk wrote: ↑July 12th, 2021, 11:13 pmI thought it was one of those unlimited benches and you just had a limit on the number of subs you could use but could put the whole squad on it.mildlyinterested wrote: ↑July 12th, 2021, 2:31 pm
Tim Corkery can't even make the bench, that's disappointing to see, same for Josh O'Connor.

Re: Ireland u20 2021
Corkery looked better than Humphreys, who was very poor and looked out of his depth, but still wasn't anything great unfortunately.
Charlie Tector missed out due to injury, so it will be interesting to see what happens with Corkery going forward, it was assumed he would be joining the academy..

Hard to know either way with so much disruption. Not making the bench for the U20s isn't a good sign but it's not like players don't turn it around later.mildlyinterested wrote: ↑July 13th, 2021, 6:59 am Corkery looked better than Humphreys, who was very poor and looked out of his depth, but still wasn't anything great unfortunately.

Re: Ireland u20 2021
he could be injured, it's unclear.. but going from starting to not making the bench isn't great.. his development the past 18 months has certainly been affected by the disruption but has he shown he is worthy of an academy place?ronk wrote: ↑July 13th, 2021, 8:28 amHard to know either way with so much disruption. He doesn't turn 20 until december so maybe they'll have him in competing with Tector/O'Hara over the next few months..

Re: Ireland u20 2021
that could have been Tector if it wasn't for his injury..
I thought Corkery was fine in his first two games, certainly better than Humphreys, but struggled against England and we haven't seen him since.
i'd be reluctant to write him off completely, but it's not ideal

Re: Ireland u20 2021
There are always years when Leinster don't have a vintage crop at underage level. Players born in 1997 would be the most recent one that I remember; that would be 2017 U20s. If you look at our current squad, we only have a couple of players from that age in there – Larmour and Frawley.
They're 23/24 now, and there is normally a bulge in the squad at that age as guys go from academy to development contract to first senior contract [they're all relatively low-value contracts].
It's not like we didn't have players in that U20s squad. In fact many of them have gone on to professional careers in other teams: Paul Boyle, Oisin Dowling, Greg McGrath, Jordan Duggan and Conor Dean are all with Connacht; Gavin Mullin and Jack Kelly are with the Sevens; and Jack Regan is with the Ospreys. Tadhg McElroy has had stints with Saracens and Bristol.
But if you look at the academy class we brought in that summer, it's more that half U19 players:
"The list of Year One players includes Jack Aungier (St Fintan’s High School), Oisín Dowling (Lansdowne FC), Caelan Doris (St Mary’s College), Ronan Kelleher (Lansdowne), Gavin Mullin (UCD), Tommy O’Brien (UCD), Hugh O’Sullivan (Belvedere College) and Ciaran Frawley (UCD)."

Leinster could do with a vintage crop of backs coming through...

Re: Summer tour of Dublin 2021
Very sloppy from Ireland. No idea why they kicked so much when France were down to 14.
Doak really unlucky not to have stopped the breakaway try, that was tackle of the year right there.
France haven’t played well and we’re still in it but need to stop giving the ball away cheaply.

Yeah brilliant try there. Jennings did brilliantly to keep going forward but not lose his support or try a miracle play.

Blatant knock on from France at the lineout, cruel if we concede points after that.

McKee’s last act might have saved the match, great work to secure that ball on his own with three French players diving in at him.

Lenihan saying Kendellen reminds him of Pocock. Don’t see that myself but was thinking he reminds me of a young Jordi Murphy, the all action carrying version that he was in school and then at his best a few years back.
