Hugely interested to see how they go. A lot of determined, hungry characters in there who won't be happy to stay dirt-trackers.
It’s as weak a starting pack as you’ll see. It’s half guys with potential(TOT, maccarthy, prendergast &coombes) and half(and this is maybe harsh) guys who look like placeholders. Playing in this type of team isn’t a great opportunity for either of those groups.

Biggest opportunity here is for JOB to nail down the understudy at 15 however the game pans out. If he can put in a solid game with few errors even where we play badly he’s in the box seat until Lowry likely gets a shot in the 2nd Māori game
Ruddock's tackle stats consistently too low for me to be taken seriously as a Six Nations blindside..... Ruddock's defensive stats don't stack up. - All Blacks Nil, Jan 15th, 2014
England A 8 - 14 Ireland A, 25th Jan 2014
Ruddock(c) 19/2 Tackles

Good article on Cian Prendergast. It’s a bit weird to have a 4th choice 6 on tour but this hints at why. Extremely hard worker off the pitch.

Sounds like we should call it off before someone gets killed.

He's done very well and it clearly suited him to get gametime and he's been well motivated. He seized the day.

The point was made that he didn't get an academy place and that it was competitive, which it was. Prendergast was a sub competing with players like Deeny and Sean O'Brien who have been injured, but there was also Baird, Soroka, McCarthy. From a wider Ireland perspective there was Ahern and McCann. Moloney was a year earlier. Doris was coming through too.

And the timing with Covid was poor. Easy to see how there was a clearer path in Connacht.

Shame for Loughman, looks unlikely he’ll be back for this game. Long old shift Healy will have to put in and then go again on Saturday on the bench

bit worrying to see Loughman coming back on given how unsteady he was after the contact.

Way too many pens so far.

They're causing serious issues down our left side. Hume/Earls not connected at all.

When we've got the ball in their half attack has looked good though.

We've only been there once. If it wasn't for one lovely bit of play from Coombes and Aki we'd be 15 points down after 30 mins.

They havent even had to do anything really. Just one or two passes and they are outside us.

No we had a nice passage of play at the start also. Frawley screened and Hume made a break.

Some of the penalties have been absolutely idiotic. Pack need to get a grip.

Kitman needs to invest in 'NZ length' studs.

How did the chase line end up with 10 on the open side there?

At half time my first thought is that Loughman should not be on the field. He had to be helped of it and that should be the sign that is day is over.

Second thought is that this is very poor from Ireland. So many issues across the board, not least is discipline. Some awful penalties conceded. It's going to be a very long second half
