Raining, rubbish weather. Scotland not brilliant; 6-3 up at half time, let the Aussies in afterwards, who nearly scored, but didn't ground the ball. Most of the 2nd half in Scotland's half / 22. last 5 minutes, Scotland had the ball, up in Oz half, couple of reset scrums (all to Scot), Oz gave away a penno at the death, Laidlaw (who had scored 2/3 at that stage) kicked it!

2 Scots were celebrating, leaped in the air and managed to head but each other, with blood pouring from one

Not the greatest game ever, excellent result though :D

According to BBC text updates, and what they are saying on Green and Gold, the conditions were horrible (if your Australian) or normal (if your Scottish).

The aussies played their usualy game in the wet and got punished by the Scots. Australia had all the territory and the wind at their back in the second half but couldnt convert. Fair play to Scotland, excellent defense.

Atrocious weather conditions ruined the game but Scotland defended for their lives! Australia had numerous chances to win but actually messed up that many times when close to the line, they looked like Scotland!Scotland were playing against the wind in the 2nd half and the only time they entered the Oz half was with 3 minutes to go when Australia kicked the ball over the dead ball, from there Scotland had a few phases and then got a scrum on the 22 and forced a penalty which they kicked to win with the last play of the game!

Scotland were in 12th in the World Rankings is this result enough to jump them up past us? Im pretty bad on the ranking system but I know an away win against a top tier team is quite rewarding.

Will bring them up to 10th I think, but still a good bit behind Ireland in terms of ranking points.

Its had to put across just how bad the conditions were. It was as bad, if not worse, than the weather the day Felipes kick blew back over the bar in Galway. Scotlands defense was heroic though it must be said, the back row was immense.

This illustrates three things:

1. Scotland are a gritty team with a decent back row and in poor conditions that hamper the opposition can grind out a win.

2. Australia, as they have for several years, with perhaps one notable exception (v SA), lack any on-feild nous when under pressure, and shorn of a couple of key players are very average.

3. Given 2, our win against Australia is an absolute non entity, on the international stage the season has been a shambles and we need a new approach/ coach.

Well done Scotland anyway.

Even if they were to win by more than 15 points against Samoa and Fiji they still can't overtake us - the closest they can get is 1.29 points behind (and that's assuming we don't get any sort of a result in New Zealand)

Do we get anything if we lose but finish within 15 points?

Great result to give a boost to Scottish rugby after Edinburgh's run in the HEC. Whether they can build on it or not or whether it's an abbaration due to conditions they still won and it could put a feel good factor back in their rugby which can only be good for the six nations and the international game as a whole.

You'd have to hope that a fantastic result like that would bring the greatest reward possible - the immediate dismissal of DK

Serious questions have to be asked of Oz management and players if they failed to play the conditions again. Delighted for the Scots though! SH teams need to be taken down a few pegs this summer so hopefully this is the start of something.

The issue is that scotland within 2 pts of ireland for the Autumn Internationals means that mgmt have a reason not to experiment during the Autumn Internationals.

Highly unlikely that they can.

I'd say they could put triple figures on us and that still wouldn't happen.

Wow, McGahan just impresses wherever he goes doesn't he? It took him a lot longer to stuff up Munster but he's really got form now.
Caveats apply as it is entirely possible that the information contained in the above post is either an attempt at a wind-up, an attempt at a joke or just plain wrong.

Most of those Australian players player Super 15 at the weekend, didn't they? Then directly into a fixture against Scotland on the Tuesday after two days in camp together? Then 4 days until the next test, against Wales and a flight away?

Seems a bit of a farce to me.

Indeed. Fair play to the Scots, but having a test match squeezed in on a fecking Tuesday makes a joke of the fixture.
