I know it means very little at this point but that loss drops us from 3rd to 5th in rankings with England up to 3rd and France up to 4th

Good stuff. No danger of us peaking too early then.... :)

This week’s results move France up to 3rd and England down to 4th. The margin of France’s victory also moves Scotland down to 8th below Wales who move up one place to 7th despite losing.

I remember from a previous post by @xanthippe that a big away win is invaluable in World Ranking points. Yesterday's result must put us in good standing?

By my calculations it's

1 South Africa 90.61
2 New Zealand 88.75
3 France 88.56
4 Ireland 88.09 (up 1)
5 England 84.83 (down 1)
6 Australia 83.92
7 Scotland 81.93 (up 1)
8 Wales 81.27 (down 1)
9 Argentina 80.58
10 Japan 78.26

14 Italy 70.33

England are likely to finish 4th in the 6N, maybe even 5th. A summer tour to Australia could go either way, and then they finish their November internationals against New Zealand and South Africa.

I suspect they’ll pick enough wins to keep a crisis at bay but it’ll be interesting to see what shape they’ll be in as the year goes on.

France up to 2nd in the rankings, we stay 4th. No change for England or Scotland but Wales drop to 9th.

So we’re second now? And we’ve got the Raeburn Shield back. This is the real quiz!

Is this the first time 1 and 2 are Northern hemisphere teams?

Meanwhile; Georgia beat Italy 28-19; first time they've beaten a Tier 1 Nation.

Was a good watch via Georgian Rugby Facebook page. Looked really good atmosphere. They jump Italy in the rankings I believe now 12th.

Just gone into WR to screen grab the rankings and they have us second still, despite it allegedly having been updated!

This just above a WR article explaining how any win against NZ would push Ireland over 90 points and into first place!

A couple of wins for SA vs NZ in the next few weeks will knock us off our perch! Fingers Crossed!

Even a couple of trashings won't quite do it. SA will need another game or 2.

I know it's tongue in cheek but we don't need to fear being number one or assume it means we're going to somehow underperform through over-confidence.

It's time we feel comfortable, coaches, players and supporters (and above all the Ger Gilroys) that we're an elite world side.

They say that staying on top is even harder than getting there, so i doubt we lack motivation to keep our noses to the grindstone.
