Absolutely, whoever wins the final will be #1 and places 2-4 will be decided by winning marginsOldschool wrote:I presume those rankings could change depending on the results at the weekend.Ruckedtobits wrote:So England 1st, S Africa 2nd, NZ 3rd and Wales 4th. Re: IRB World Rankings
Can Wales knock the kiwis down to 4th if they win tomorrow?
Re: IRB World Rankings
Yes. And SA down to 3rd if they lose.
England would need to lose by 15+ to fall behind a winning Wales or else Wales would need to get 15+ win v NZ

So #2 and from #4 on are now finalised - just England and South Africa left to sort out. The winner will be #1 and the runner up will be #3

Re: IRB World Rankings
Would have qualified for the RWC, but had administrative issues. 2 of their players were not eligible as they had played for France U20s back when they were still a capture team. Were docked 40 points as these players played in all 8 games in the Rugby Europe Championship.CiaranIrl wrote:How are Spain so high?Xanthippe wrote:So #2 and from #4 on are now finalised - just England and South Africa left to sort out. Re: IRB World Rankings
The coronavirus could have a dramatic effect on the rankings with the WC seedings being fixed in late November.
A 0-0 draw at home to Italy, for example, would not be good at all.

Pretty sure they've said that any postponed games, even if they're declared a 0-0 draw, won't be used for calculating the ratings.blockhead wrote:The coronavirus could have a dramatic effect on the rankings with the WC seedings being fixed in late November.

Re: IRB World Rankings
did that apply to Italy vs nz in the world cup? or is it just a 6 nations thing. That would have given Italy a huge rankings boostcormac wrote:Pretty sure they've said that any postponed games, even if they're declared a 0-0 draw, won't be used for calculating the ratings.blockhead wrote:The coronavirus could have a dramatic effect on the rankings with the WC seedings being fixed in late November.

The coronavirus is likely to cause mass disruption to the summer tours and maybe even to the up coming autumn games.
If that is the case could they not delay the world cup seeding's or is the time set in stone?

If CV19 behaves like your typical flu virus it's impact could start to wane in a similar way as the temperatures begin to rise in the NH.JB1973 wrote:did that apply to Italy vs nz in the world cup? or is it just a 6 nations thing. IE peaks in February and tapers off by April.
Here's hoping.

Re: IRB World Rankings
Yes it did. If Italy had really managed a 0-0 draw with BNZ in the World Cup there would have been a 2.0 ratings exchange but that didn’t happen - BNZ’s ranking the Monday after the cancelled game was the same as it was the previous Monday.JB1973 wrote:did that apply to Italy vs nz in the world cup? or is it just a 6 nations thing. It's a completely different type of virus. Not the same family. And it looks like it can reinfect.Oldschool wrote: If CV19 behaves like your typical flu virus it's impact could start to wane in a similar way as the temperatures begin to rise in the NH.

The trouble is ... neither have you

Re: IRB World Rankings
Ireland are 4th in World rankings at present and Italy are 15th as Benetton claim their first trophy in European Club rugby and Kieran Crowley departs to take up the National Coaching role. By the time we get to the opening games of RWC2023 I fully expect the gap to be down to 5 places with Italy on an upward trajectory.
Crowley has been on this journey before with Canada and knows how to handle the development of an international team. Looking forward to watching this progress.

Re: IRB World Rankings
We need to win our summer games or it may happen sooner than you think - a loss to either (or both) Japan or USA would knock us way down the rankings. Therein lies the problem with blooding new players - you're actually 'safer' giving them a start against an equal or better team because the knock on effect of a loss is not so great

Re: IRB World Rankings
That win puts us up to 3rd in rankings - will be 4th if Australia beat England or if England win by more than 15 points
cr@p, that last minute try and conversion puts England in 3rd and us in 4th
