It will be interesting to hear how low they will go to off load their wedge of Tx.
I won't be partaking but i'd like to hear the loss, mean spirited as that may be.

It's the players I feel for. Now that the clubs have been bailed out. They will be breaking their nuts with a lot less support.Mackman15 wrote:V. Good.Armchair wrote:40,000 spectatators and 5,000 Touts

A great pity that the IRFU did not see sense 2 weeks (or even months) earlier. At least they did eventually though.

Re: Attendance on Saturday
I think the "official" attendance will be in the 40-45k bracket but the actual bums on seats will be a damn-sight less than that.
'And striding away now! For Leinster, is Brian O'Driscoll! He's Running for the posts, he could be running for the Final here! We've got a quarter of the match to go but at the moment the colour is Blue!!' Myles Harrison; Croke Park; 2nd May 2009
Re: Attendance on Saturday
Yeah, the players have been caught up in this through no fault of their own. After playing to full houses nearly always at Croke Park, they'll be scratching their heads at the rows and rows of empty seats at the Aviva.johng wrote: It's the players I feel for. The ticket fiasco has put a cloud over the match and what should be a fantastic occasion has been ruined by the arrogance and stupidity of the goons at the IRFU. Heads should roll for this, but probably won't.

The actual figure was just over 35k. I wonder what figure will be released.

Yeah just saw that, thanks. Shocking is the only word to desribe. IRFU have made a balls of this, for whatever reason, to get over 80,000 people this time last year for the same match and to get less than half that this year is shocking. Recession or no recession.Dave Cahill wrote:ratpack wrote:

Re: Attendance on Saturday
Philip Browne should be fired for the ticketing fiasco. At 2/3full stadium for a match against the World Champions, large blocks of seats unoccupied; funereal atmosphere (probably because a large segment of those in attendance were merely 'event junkies'. This was so predictable, from the time they announced the new stadium was going to have the same capacity as the old one it was clear that ticket prices ould be in the stupid bracket and nobody would pay. Add in the outrageous overpricing and then a 4-wknds-in-a-row packaging and the recipe for disaster was almost complete. The toilet-wrapped economy merely compounded the IRFU errors, it did not cause them.
For the next few matches they should let every school kid in Ireland in free; bus them in from Ballybofey if they have to - at least it would add some atmosphere.

Re: Attendance on Saturday
For Ireland, their debut at the Aviva Stadium turned out to be deeply disappointing for reasons beyond the performance on the pitch.
Rows of empty seats greeted the teams at kick-off, a result of the ticketing fiasco that forced to Irish Rugby Football Union to issue an apology on Monday.
Forced to buy tickets in two-match packages, many supporters voted with their feet to deny the Aviva Stadium a sell-out for its first international event.
Even fewer were present for the second half with many spectators failing to return to their seats after the interval.
