Perhaps Xan would have the stats but Smith has a record of played 2 lost 2 with Leinster.

How many players have 0% win record from more than 1 game I wonder? Poor fella it's not a good looking stat.

I thought the limited bits I saw were good. He strikes me as a very big fella who could do a job.

Undoubtedly Russell is rated higher in any case.

I think it's a good signing for Connacht, Smith has looked really sharpe on 7s circuit. Seems to be a very good all rounder: strong, quick, good feet, decent pass and good over the ball.

Garry Ringrose is continuing to recover well from his head injury suffered at Murrayfield on Sunday.

Understand he joined the Ireland squad today for team meetings as a key member of the leadership group.

I'd imagine that was just precautionary as it's a head injury.

I think it's a good signing for Connacht, Smith has looked really sharpe on 7s circuit. Seems to be a very good all rounder: strong, quick, good feet, decent pass and good over the ball.

It's fine. He won't be on big money and will be given a 1 year with an option of a second year if he impresses. He's also going in as a squad filler rather as a first teamer so the the expectation won't be too high which may help him settle.

I'm not a fan of how we drip feed contract news at random points during the year. Sure, announce them one at a time so each player gets a bit of attention, but do them all on the same day.

Great stuff. I reckon Big Mike's a more important player for us, than he sometimes get credit for. He'd be a generally acknowledged "legend" of Leinster Rugby already, had he not been unlucky with a single 50/50 call at the breakdown by Wayne Barnes last spring in Marseille.
