7 of the 8 come from the usual two schools. A gift and a potential problem.mildlyinterested wrote: ↑March 9th, 2023, 10:54 am Probable incoming leinster academy class:

Re: Leinster Academy 22-23
Interesting that only 1 is born in last 3 months of the year. There is definitely strong evidence that kids born in the first 3 months of the year enjoy an advantage in terms of making development teams.mildlyinterested wrote: ↑March 15th, 2023, 10:50 am Irish 20s, profiles online, no height/weight yet: https://www.irishrugby.ie/ireland/under20/profiles/

Yeah maybe the lads with no DOB will be later in the year but its certainly weighted one way.the spoofer wrote: ↑March 15th, 2023, 11:43 amInteresting that only 1 is born in last 3 months of the year. Re: Leinster Academy 22-23
Malcolm Gladwell addressed this in Outliers in relation to Canadian ice hockey. Player born in the first half of the year were over-represented in professional setups. This derived from older, bigger, stronger players getting into special camps, etc at age grade levels. The relevant authorities created additional mid-year age categories (like we did in Ireland with car registrations from 2014 on) and they have managed to unearth more players whose birthdays are in the second half of the year as a result.the spoofer wrote: ↑March 15th, 2023, 11:43 amInteresting that only 1 is born in last 3 months of the year. Re: Leinster Academy 22-23
Munster have promoted Cian Hurley (2nd row/Backrow) from their academy to the senior squad so I think that rules out Soroka moving to Munster

Gladwell has a talent for taking a poor understanding of things and propagating them in the public conscious. See his really sh!t take on 10,000 hours (in a group of violinists pre-selected for talent in Berlin) which cannot be applied to general populations. It sounds like it makes sense but he didn't understand it and just shited it out because he liked the idea.joooooe wrote: ↑March 15th, 2023, 3:59 pmMalcolm Gladwell addressed this in Outliers in relation to Canadian ice hockey. Yeah, in fairness, he has come out and said the 10,000 hours "rule" was nonsense and that he regrets it.Morf wrote: ↑March 16th, 2023, 2:05 amGladwell has a talent for taking a poor understanding of things and propagating them in the public conscious. Re: Leinster Academy 22-23
Yeah I read it a number of years ago. It might be a case of reinforcing my own bias but years of coaching underage led me to the same conclusion.joooooe wrote: ↑March 15th, 2023, 3:59 pmMalcolm Gladwell addressed this in Outliers in relation to Canadian ice hockey. Re: Leinster Academy 22-23
Sean O'Brien leaving the academy to join Connacht.
Look out Itchy, he's Irish
Re: Leinster Academy 22-23
That's a really good pickup for them.
Re: Leinster Academy 22-23
Trying to lever the concept out of peoples' minds is a whole other thing. It makes sense in a way they don't want to reconsider. Like my mother hearing salt is bad for blood pressure decades ago - she cannot ever consider salt positively again.joooooe wrote: ↑March 16th, 2023, 9:14 amYeah, in fairness, he has come out and said the 10,000 hours "rule" was nonsense and that he regrets it.Morf wrote: ↑March 16th, 2023, 2:05 amGladwell has a talent for taking a poor understanding of things and propagating them in the public conscious. Re: Leinster Academy 22-23
Salt is still the single worst thing for blood pressure though. Not just decades ago.
