I don't think Gus McCarthy (a real competitor but not the explosive athlete we are used to) is going to add much to the excellent roster of 5 Hookers that we have, but maybe it is prudent to have 6 on the go.

George Hadden looks to be serious business based on the first two scrum performances by the U20s and he would be #6 Lose head on the roster if Cian retires post RWC...or moves to TH for the next 5 years!

I wouldn't rule out James 2-try Nicholson too quickly. He was been picked ahead of McErlean in Wales and the ball didn't run his way vs France. Jackman spoke with conviction on his talents. The lad needs to be put on the Jack Boyle diet - which he can share with Sam Prendergast, so they don't get too large.

The Gunne/Cawley duo is interesting. As an NTS player, you have to think Gunne is on top and being given all the opportunities and hype so far but imho, I've yet to see him have a "great" game since leaving school. He was poor enough when he played for the Leinster A v AIL 15 last year (in which Cawley looked like the better 9). He was decent (but just that) in the U20s warm-up game while Cawley to be fair had a really good game for the Leinster side. In the 6 Nations so far, the sense I get seems to be that Gunne has been ok, rather than setting the place on fire.

It seems a pity that Richie Murphy doesn't appear to be giving his bench, especially backs, much of a run out as it would be interesting to see how Cawley goes if he got a proper look-in off the bench. He left 4 on the bench against France - would he not show some faith in them - after all, he did select them?

On Morris and Nicholson - perhaps Mildly's right as they're non NTS. Though it seems to me to be inconsistent the way some players are championed (by the powers that be) through the NTS when comparing ongoing form? Perhaps I'm being naive...

Early days in the u20 6N, but agree on Gunne, he hasn't set the world a light. He's been fine. He hasn't lived up to the hype. But he's young and just back from injury so let's see how he goes in the next match.

Absolutely, don't get me wrong, this is an experience and development opportunity. Would just like to see that latitude afforded to, at least, the match day 23 in a meaningful way.

Forwards [1-8]: Boyle, McKee, McGuire/McCarthy, O'Tighearnaigh, Mangan, Soroka, O'Brien, Culhane
Backs [9-15]: B. Murphy/Gunne, Prendergast, Russell, Brownlee, Cooney, King, Cosgrave.

Difficult calls at No3 and No9, otherwise I think it is straightforward. Both Mangan and Soroka are No6s at senior level in my eyes though.

Alex Soroka is the type of player that will move to Munster, get an injury free run and a lot of game time and fulfill his potential

Nah, he's the type of player that has ambition, so that won't happen.
