Well you can count.

Any centres we should have recruited for the year? Osbourne getting promoted early affects the numbers somewhat.

We were centre heavy in the squad but the situation has changed quickly. All the more so if Frawley moves to 10.

If they are all kept on there’s quite a lot of year 3 players who really need to have good seasons in order to get a contract at the end of the year.

Possibly a new competition for them to play in.

Hmmm, seems like it would be expensive to send 4 sides for a 3 match tour oF SA. Not against it but seems like they should give the AIl a chance as the Leinster players we sent to SA and rolled out against Munster seemed well prepared. Sheehan made a name for himself in the AIL too iirc.

It’ll be really interesting to see how this plays out. I suspect it’s a good environment to develop academy players, much better than the AIL but expect this is quite an emotive issue. The cost will be a key consideration.

All 4 Irish provinces were involved, but Toyota cut the sponsorship after the Cheetahs didn't win the Currie Cup.

Or they could go the same route as Italy and have provinces playing together ala Connacht/Munster and Leinster/Ulster.

Very unlikely because of cross coaching. IRFU might have looked at two Ireland A teams to keep people like Richie Murphy and his U.20 coaches busy, but that's really the only scenario that cross-provincial coaching might work.

Yeah, so I think Ulster and Leinster is best. Connacht don't really have the resources, and Munster use their 'A' team more for giving senior squad players who aren't getting gametime a run, so not much use for development.

I'd rather they just ran a proper inter provincial 'A' tournament than this nonsense to be honest. Unnecessary travel to teams that won't be of a better standard.

Playing the South African teams would be a higher standard. We’d probably get destroyed by them but it’d be a good test for the lads and it’ll only improve them.

They won't be playing their first team squads I'd imagine.

The South African sides might. Currie Cup doesn't start till January and the Cheetahs are an invited team in the Challenge Cup in season 22/23 with pool games in December and January.

I can't imagine that the players are on 52 week contracts and most currie Cup teams run u20 and u23 sides, so I would've thought they'd be pulling from them for this comp. Could be completely wrong of course.
