Let's not go OTT here. We've got a lot of great talent in that team and our pack in particular will readily match up to theirs.

Backline is a bit more patched together, but each individual from 11-15 in our backline is a talented player who won't fear their opposite number by any means.

If we can get a bit of momentum in the front 5 and try to stop McCloskey at source then we've a good shout here.

Worth at least two scores for Ulster.

They could pull off a league whitewash on us. When was the last time that happened, if it even has happened?
2012/13 season.
Thanks. We beat them in the league final of course. But regular season I guess.
So this will be the second time in the professional era that they have beaten us twice in a season?

Since Celtic League started in its various forms, 2012/13 season was the only one Ulster won both league games.

Not that it mattered because we won when it counted - their two wins got them the home draw for the final which we won (yes, I know - they were absolutely stupid and decided to play it in what they were calling the OurDS!!!!)

Bookies have gone from 1pt in Ulster's favour to 3pts. Not massive favourites by any stretch! The weather might be a bit of a leveller too. You can have all the sparkling backs you want but if they keep dropping the ball in the mud you're going to see a lot of scrums.

I think that last time I felt this pessimistic about out chances in an Inter-pro was the time at Christmas 2018 when we sent a load of kids down to face the might of a fully stocked Munster team in Thomond park.

Make of that what you will!

That was 2017. We lost in Thomond in 2018 with a very strong team.

Borrowed Windsor Park: that would have stuck it up to us.

It's so long ago that I can't remember - even though I was at the game. But was Landsdowne Road not considered?

It was a strange one - I think at the start of that season each team had to nominate a venue in case they were the home team for the final and Ulster chose the RDS as Ravenhill was being redeveloped.

A video review of the Ulster game in the RDS before Christmas should be enough to give us a good kick up the backside, we really owe them one for that performance. Tough game for sure but hopeful the performance won’t be lacking, might not get us the result but you never know.

A 6/2 split on the bench is interesting. Are there no other backs standing or is this a tactical decision?
