Re: United Rugby Championship
Lots of Friday away games and Saturday home games which is good.
No Sunday games bar the NYD Connacht tie.
Thomond derby on Stephen's Day which is great.

Re: United Rugby Championship
URC viewing figures from last season show the TV crowds the SA teams bring and the draw of Munster.
Pretty poor showing for our viewing figures I must say. I've said this before but I really think we are underperforming in terms of bringing in fans (both into stadium and from the sofa/high stool).

Re: United Rugby Championship
You know what's likely be skewing those TV viewing figures, Wixfjord? The Munster gogglebox numbers get bumped up by all the Leinster fans, making sure every weekend, that our dearest rivals aren't catching up with us, whereas the Leinster numbers don't a corresponding bounce from the Munster fans, cos the latter can't bear to see just how superior in all facets of the game the Boys In Blue are. Simples, innit!!
Re: United Rugby Championship
8 different teams in the the 5 most watched games,
Derby audience figures completely at odds with a normal year. It's great to see the strong viewing numbers in a hugely disrupted year. Scale of disruption was such that I don't think it tells us much other than South African TV audiences are relatively large.

Happy with this. I think the rebranding is working and you can see by the way the league is talked about that there seems to be a new sheen of respect about it from most media outlets. Hopefully this continues.

Re: United Rugby Championship
The viewing information is interesting. I would guess Leinster figures are underrepresented due to the proportion of Leinster games shown on TG4 in Irish compared to Munster games on RTE in English. There's probably also a demographic issue for the home supporters - a lot of the Ulster and Leinster fanbase live within easy reach of the stadium so will watch games live (hence relatively full RDS and Ravenhill) whereas Munster supporters are maybe spread out a bit more so might watch on TV rather than take the trip to Thomond (hence the often half full Thomond (albeit Thomond a bit bigger than RDS or Ravenhill)).
However you read the figures, they do support the proposition that the SA franchises have been a good development for the league. There is a large SA TV audience and the viewing figures should bring extra revenue when TV deals are being re-negotiated which can only be good for the teams in the league.

We can try spin this any way we want but at the end of the day our viewing figures aren't good enough. Maybe some of our excuses would work if our attendances were good but they quite frankly aren't good enough either and have declined sharply since our peak around 11/12.allezlesverres wrote: ↑August 18th, 2022, 10:48 am The viewing information is interesting. I'm only saying this as a concern because we have enjoyed unprecedented success over the last decade, when things aren't going so well what will our viewing figures and attendances be like then? There's still loads of work to be done with getting people into watching Leinster.

Watching Leinster wrack up 30/40 point wins over most other teams isn't exactly going to pull the crowds in.Keith wrote: ↑August 18th, 2022, 11:08 amWe can try spin this any way we want but at the end of the day our viewing figures aren't good enough. There are issues with covid, habits broken, scheduling impacted and all of that stuff. I don't think it's just down to success on the pitch - our numbers didn't really drop off when we won nothing historically.Keith wrote: ↑August 18th, 2022, 11:08 amWe can try spin this any way we want but at the end of the day our viewing figures aren't good enough. However, you are right, we need those numbers to be better but the issue is that so much of this stuff is out of our control. We can't decide the fixture list, broadcast schedules or season breaks.
On the plus side, the numbers in South Africa are great so that's good for the league.

Re: United Rugby Championship
I think crowd numbers are probably down anyway, but they changed how they reported attendances circa 2015. Attendances used to be based on tickets sold (i.e. all season ticket holders were included in attendance regardless of whether they were there). They're now based on the numbers through the "turnstiles".Keith wrote: ↑August 18th, 2022, 11:08 amWe can try spin this any way we want but at the end of the day our viewing figures aren't good enough.
