I guess the fact that 2 wins could qualify you will keep it competitive for at least 75% of the group stage, with only a couple of dead rubbers by round four.

I would I be right in assuming that if after 2 or 3 games you have qualified for the last 16 there is potential to play your under 10's for the last 1 or 2 games? That is, there is no advantage to finishing on more points then anyone else anymore?

24 teams

Two pools of 12 teams each. Pool A and Pool B.

Each team plays two other teams from their pool home and away based on their ranking (can't play a team from the same league as yours).

Each pool has a single league table. After the four games the top 8 teams from each pool progress to the first knockout round.

We face Montpellier and Bath home and away over four weekends in December and January.

Round of 16

2.6 The eight highest-ranked clubs in Pool A and the eight highest-ranked clubs in Pool B will qualify for the Round of 16 matches which will be played over two legs on a home and away basis as follows:

R16 1: Number 1-ranked club in Pool A v Number 8-ranked club in Pool B
R16 2: Number 2-ranked club in Pool A v Number 7-ranked club in Pool B
R16 3: Number 3-ranked club in Pool A v Number 6-ranked club in Pool B
R16 4: Number 4-ranked club in Pool A v Number 5-ranked club in Pool B
R16 5: Number 4-ranked club in Pool B v Number 5-ranked club in Pool A
R16 6: Number 3-ranked club in Pool B v Number 6-ranked club in Pool A
R16 7: Number 2-ranked club in Pool B v Number 7-ranked club in Pool A
R16 8: Number 1-ranked club in Pool B v Number 8-ranked club in Pool A
NB The clubs ranked numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4 from Pool A and Pool B will play the second leg of their Round of 16 matches at home.

Quarter-finals

2.7 The quarter-finals will be played over one match and the highest-ranked club from the pool stage will have home venue advantage as follows:

QF 1: Winner R16 1 v Winner R16 5
QF 2: Winner R16 7 v Winner R16 3
QF 3: Winner R16 2 v Winner R16 6
QF 4: Winner R16 8 v Winner R16 4

Semi-finals

2.8 The semi-finals, played over one match, will be staged at venues designated by EPCR and the highest-ranked clubs from the pool stage will have home country advantage as follows:

SF 1: Winner QF 1 v Winner QF 2
SF 2: Winner QF 3 v Winner QF 4

My money is on our first game being away to Montpellier with Bath in Dublin a week later.

I'd like to avoid French sides away when they still have something to play for.

EPCR is planning a club World Cup tournament. Sounds like a CVV inspired venture. Leaving aside player welfare issues which must arise, it seems like an interesting idea although the qualification process would have to be streamlined

Qualication via Champions Cup structure with q/f teams included in Club World Cup but no Champions Cup knock-out competition in year of World Club championship. Will not clash with RWC or Lions tour so next opportunity is either 2022 or 2024.

Agree that it sounds CVC inspired but points made above in Media Briefing all sound reasonable.

And people give out about our League chopping and changing! Seems there's some new format every couple of years now.

The revised European Cup has never reached the heights of the old ERC version, since the Nigels hijacked it, IMO.
