Great move for him. We have to go to the market and sign a second row, will we be allowed a NIQ one?
We have Soroka
So we definitely need an NIQ one.

Thats a disaster re Dunne
Ruddock's tackle stats consistently too low for me to be taken seriously as a Six Nations blindside..... Ruddock's defensive stats don't stack up. - All Blacks Nil, Jan 15th, 2014

its poor, leinster will survive but you'd wonder what we are at with our lock development.

Yep, would not be happy if we lose him. Sure he needs games and some work, but we've already put three years into him and should match or better whatever Exeter have offered - unless we have Thornbury or Murray lined up from out West.

We were already in the market for a NIQ lock before this. If Dunne is gone, are we hitting the market again? I would assume so since neither the year 3 academy lock options have seen any game time. I know Soroka is sometimes mentioned as a lock but I think he has always featured in the back row for us.

Where did you hear we were in the market for a NIQ lock? We certainly need at least one, possibly two locks signed. I don't want to see Josh Murphy there other than in an emergency.

Murphy has been moved there full time, but he isn't a TH lock.

Josh Murphy is a very good blindside forward but I really do not think he is big enough to play lock.
I think Josh could have a fine career in the 6 jersey, obviously competing with Doris, Ruddock and hopefully Dan Leavy.
Josh was ok around the field and the scrum was obviously very good today against weak opponents but I don't see him contributing a lot in the lineout against stronger teams.
Perhaps that is not the role they plan for him, he is a very physical player who may contribute in other ways.
We really need Baird,Ross and Ryan at full fitness to go deep into the tournament.

Made sense for Josh Murphy to be sub sub as he covered 7 out of a 23 (more if you pivot to a 6-2 split).

This has been the news that I have feared I would read.

Over the last couple of seasons I have felt that Leinster have been slaves to their policy of developing from within at all costs.
While this is a noble act and has brought Leinster to where they are today. IMO this has possibly cost Leinster a couple of HCs, as Leinster have found themselves on the receiving end of beatings at the hands of more physical packs.

If Leinster can find a big enforcer TH lock, then that could take them from being among the best, to the best in Europe.

This obviously will affect the development of players, as evidenced with the news that Dunne will be departing.
It will also mean that others will lose out on valuable minutes.
This will no doubt really p1ss off some posters on here who are adamant that provinces shouldn’t be signing players from outside the province, especially in positions where they have had signings recently, but I think many other Leinster fans will be delighted.

From an Irish perspective, I really hope that Baird is moved full time to 6 for Leinster.
I would put some meat on his bones but ensure that he retains his athleticism.
He has the makings of top class 6, and given his size and athleticism he could become a real nightmare to play against.
Just because a post upsets you, that doesn’t mean that it is wrong. People have different views in all aspects of life, this is a key ingredient to an interesting conversation.

Thanks, it'll be interesting to see what kind of lock we go for. Jason Jenkins could be available

With Baird, Soroka, Murphy and Ruddock all able to cover lock/blindside and remaining locks leaning towards loosehead side you'd have to think we don't need any versatility whatsoever if we have a specialist tighthead lock.

Interesting to hear Caelan Doris on a podcast talk about how there were full games in training over last few weeks with proper refs in camp.

I'd say those games were probably more intense than Sunday.
