Re: Leinster Squad 21-22
Sloppy seconds from Munster. I don't know enough about this guy to judge, but it doesn't seem like an amazing signing (and he is clearly not the best South African at Munster).
He is not a Fardy, Thorn, Hines or (different position I know) Rocky, which is what we really need.
Our record with younger vaunted second row signings is definitely not good. I can't think of one that actually worked out.

Re: Leinster Squad 21-22
They weren't that vaunted because Leinster have never tried to match salary with France or Japan so they were always punts of sorts hoping to get more than we paid for. Unfortunately we got less.curates_egg wrote: ↑January 19th, 2022, 8:46 pm Sloppy seconds from Munster. Yeah I remember Fardy saying that he was offered more to go to Japan, but he wanted to win trophies. And that he did

Re: Leinster Squad 21-22
That really is the key to our ongoing search for a TH lock. We've been looking for a guy who wants to come to win trophies, not a guy who's agent wants £Stg275,000 p.a. with a 3 year contract and a Club that feels lucky to have him. That's the choices in the market at present, ask Toulon. Five years ago, the same criteria applied to THP, but that has now changed and whilst a couple top €300k, almost all contracts are weighted towards appearances and discounted by injuries. The reality is that in the Covid world, contract terms have swung back towards employers (and sanity).Laighin Break wrote: ↑January 20th, 2022, 10:32 am Yeah I remember Fardy saying that he was offered more to go to Japan, but he wanted to win trophies. Re: Leinster Squad 21-22
The Leinster Rugby coaching team have issued an injury update ahead of the trip to face Cardiff Rugby at Cardiff Arms Park on Saturday (KO 7.35pm – LIVE on Premier Sports, TG4 and S4C).
Further information has been provided on several players following on from the 64-7 win over Bath Rugby at the Rec in the final pool stage game of the Heineken Champions Cup.
Jordan Larmour was removed temporarily during that clash with Bath after picking up a facial injury but he is still expected to be available for the Six Nations.
Both Tadhg Furlong (calf) and James Ryan (hamstring) have been making good progress and will continue their rehabilitation with the Irish Rugby medical team.
Josh van der Flier has a minor groin injury, picked up against Bath, and will also be assessed by the Irish Rugby medical team.
Josh Murphy (chest) and Dave Kearney will undergo further monitoring this week before a decision is made on their availability against Cardiff at the weekend.
There are no further updates on:
James Lowe (hamstring), Dan Leavy (wrist), Conor O’Brien (hamstring), Michael Milne (calf)

Re: Leinster Squad 21-22
Doesn’t shed much light on Lowe’s injury or the recovery or O’Brien and Milne. Rugby clubs, certainly the Irish sides, are overtly opaque when it comes to injury updates.

Re: Leinster Squad 21-22
Listening to Berch and Murray on the 42 podcast, and they are mentioning that English and French clubs are looking to poach top schools players before they hit the sub-academy. Anything to this?

Re: Leinster Squad 21-22
nothing new there really.. yearly there are rumours about english clubs signing the latest top schools player.
granted it was true last year with Karl Martin and Lucas Berti Newman leaving from contracts abroad.
Re: Leinster Squad 21-22
Been happening since Geordan Murphy. Sub academy isn't very competitive. English clubs can offer £40k/year and pay Uni fees without touching their salary cap. So if they see someone they like they can make good offers. We tend not to and we'll tolerate a handful of players leaving rather than pay everyone.mildlyinterested wrote: ↑January 25th, 2022, 12:52 pmnothing new there really.. yearly there are rumours about english clubs signing the latest top schools player.

Re: Leinster Squad 21-22
Historically Donnybrook is in between UCD and Trinity. It's easy to get to.
The Leinster players who leave at 18 usually are further out travel wise. It's over an hour's drive right now to Newbridge (Berti) and Drogheda (Martin).

Re: Leinster Squad 21-22
No sure I buy that. There are varying degrees of injury information issued as it stands. The frustration is that it’s inconsistent and often misleading. Also, disclosure would surely be permitted with player consent.sunshiner1 wrote: ↑January 25th, 2022, 4:59 amThey are not allowed to due to privacy laws in this country, it's nothing to due with Leinster Rugby or the IRFU.by Blue Man
