I'd rather have the trophies than the stadium. I'd certainly rather not be in a situation where a capital programme contributes to a fall in on field competitiveness like it has in Munster
Ultimately, it would be beneficial to have a modern stadium with corporate facilities, but Leinster aren't really losing out on much from that sector. Hosting in the Intercontinental (and in it's Four Seasons guise before that) has been very successful. The main events of interest to the corporate sector are held in the Aviva anyway, which has the full set of corporate facilities.
I actually like the RDS, with all its quirks and foibles - it has character unlike a lot of modern flat pack stadia

And most importantly Aviva is around the corner. There’s no pressure coming from marquee games. Quite the opposite really.
2-3 games there has a years worth of corporate boxes and premium seats (guessing, I don’t have figures).

True, and Leinster are better off because of the likes of you. But there are many who won't turn up for the same reason. Like it or not, we need them.Theleinsterlad wrote: ↑April 8th, 2021, 11:42 pmDon’t disagree with the thoughts on having opportunities to make more money with corporate but in fairness that was in the offing until covid has really put that back. I think we can’t cry too much about facilities when we have the aviva right down the road to cater for any massive games we can hold there.blockhead wrote: ↑April 8th, 2021, 11:23 pmThank you TLL.
Dawson has been well praised on here for what he has done, or, for the good times that have occurred during his tenure.
But the Elephant in the room is that Kingspan and Thomond Park are modern stadiums, and ours is not, has been that way for a long time and there are no signs of that changing. There are no corporate boxes (and before all you liberal lefties start bitchin about the Man) Corporate facilities bring in a lot of dosh, an awful lot of dosh. Maybe some covers over the North and South stands would encourage more to attend during the long winters etc. Nothing has improved in a long time.
Where does the buck stop?
I guess you have to ask the question is dawsons job successful if he builds a stadium like Thomand after years of success and then proceeds to piss away the culture of a team brand in how they play and operate, or is it his job to bring in the right management right players winning trophies and keeping the cash balance in the positive. I know who I’m happier currently supporting. I’ll take the wet bum on the south stand any day for that....

It doesn't rain as much as people might think.
I remember when there wa the problem with planning permission for the roof on the grandstand which delayed it for a season. It rained once all season (against Munster).

I kinda like the oul place myself to a degree, having to stand 4feet back from the urinals in the Anglesea stand is alway a challenge.
The location is perfect, the team is brilliant, the fans are brilliant.
We are Europes most successful club, the trophies are there, its undisputable.
We are Real Madrid, but we play in Craven Cottage.

Funnily enough, my dad got slapped with the GAA banhammer after being seen going to a game in Craven Cottage in the late sixties.

Buck stops with the bus stop. D4 is not an easy place to get to, especially if a Friday eveningblockhead wrote: ↑April 8th, 2021, 11:23 pmThank you TLL.

The real problem is that neither Leinster nor the IRFU own the place and therefore have not been able to control the decision when to complete the development. That is controlled by a conservative charitable organisation who are not in the business of taking risks, as proved by their 250 year history.
It's not a perfect venue and lacks certain facilities but it has given Rugby fans from everywhere a great welcome and a unique sporting ambiance and has become a venue that Leinster players enjoy a lot and have made a fortress.
I for one can certainly survive without the corporate trappings if Leinster keep winning there.

And sure when we get drowned upon on in the cheap seats, Leo usually puts in a word for us in his post-match presser, which is cool too!!!

There is a limit to the number of games played there.
Corporate entertainment in the RDS is not a good option for me (and I would use it, as most of my clients are in Dublin), the before and after element means that the match attendees need to sit watch the match (I know) and its uncomfortable/awkward. They need entertainment space and the additional season ticket sponsorship money too.
