Overall, it took the scratch AIL team about 30 minutes to establish any sort of cohesion or familiarity in defence by which time they had conceded four tries. Thereafter it was a more equal contest with Leinster A always looking sharper and moving quicker in attack.

The AIL combination deserve a lot more credit than the scoreboard awards. They made a decent contest of the game in the second-half, despite the number of substitutions and certainly proved the point that a number of their players have the ability to play at a representative level, if the opportunity arose. Certainly clear evident that regardless of how little preparation they had together, the skills and technical preparation are being undertaken well at club level.

There will be plenty of focus on Leinster A but I prefer to compliment the Club team on this occasion for their contribution.

Good post, I'd love to see more of these AIL select sides being given these types of games. It really puts the players in the shop window, not only for the provinces but potentially abroad too.

Granted there is 3 years age difference between Milne and Boyle but that it quite noticeable the size/power difference between both. Hopefully with time, Boyle can develop physically as as a rugby player he has it all.

MI is there any buzz around Milne, do you know? Any bits of him I have seen have me feeling he could be absolutely class. Poor fella has been plagued with injury though

due to his injuries there hasn't been much buzz about him, loads of power there just need to harness it.

Boyle has more power in my opinion, he’s a better ball carrier and faster. Milne is bigger but Boyle seems to have more power. You don’t see Milne doing the type of carriers Boyle does. Boyle runs great line breaks too.

I used to be concerned about Boyles size wondering if he’ll have the physicality to make it pro and after watching his recent u20 campaign I think he certainly does and he’s good at scrummaging too, he seems to have it all and will eventually play for Ireland if he stays injury free.

Boyle hasn't carried against pro's yet. Mikie Milne was one of the most dynamic prop's I have seen at youth level. It's still there, watch it develop over the next few years. I'd be more worried about his scrummaging.

Baird was obviously much further away from full fitness than I assumed. Always tricky to tell with back injuries.

Unless we have two Michael Milnes and one is uncapped then he has 17 (1 start and 16 subs)
