Jacob Burnett, IQ'd 21 year old TH Prop joining leinster academy program on 4 month sponsorship.. sounds like a sub-academy position.. still interesting to see, seems like IRFU want to get a close up look at him.

Looks like a powerful unit and seems to have the right attitude, so good luck to him!!!

Ah jaysus. My brother uses that phrase. Although he has lived in Australia longer than yerman in fairness.

That's a bit of a strange one, bringing over a TH on a 4 month deal given the financial situation the IRFU are in. Clearly he has been watched for a while and they see something.

According to his stats he's 6'0 and 18 stone so clearly has the physique. Has thighs like Marty Moore too.

Shute Shield is presumably the same level as AIL and seems like he has a few games there.

Does a 'sponsorship' include more than an academy/sub-academy deal I wonder?

Well theres no way taking in an inexperienced young prop with islander heritage and putting him in the sub/academy to see if he's up to it can backfire on us.

Not quite yet, giving him to Munster who then proceed to kill his development and break him would smell of Nucifora.

Munster already have 2 imported project tighthead kids. He probably wasn't interested and it was too much grief for too much of a stretch for them. He's not even South African.

He's Australian, so if there was any major buzz around him he'd already be in their system. Good luck to the lad, maybe he'll push on with our S&C training. He needs to work his socks off though. He could just as easily coast and get homesick.

Leinster might have the starting irish u20 TH prop this season and have a tighthead prop with the irish u19 and irish u18 squads.. so it's unlikely he is coming in to help leinster out, not to mention Leinster have Tom Clarkson in the senior squad who is still just 21.

Players i'm talking about:

Rory McGuire(U20/Blackrock/UCD)
Paddy McCarthy(U19/Blackrock)
Andrew Sparrow(U18/St. Marys)
Ben Howard(U18/St. Michaels)
Adam Deay(U18/Tullow RFC)

It might make sense if this guy is a proper raw power athlete like Salanoa and they're taking a chance on him alongside a 'safer' bet like Clarkson. No idea if that's the case but his physique, RL background and Tongan heritage makes it more likely.

The fact he's IQ is a bonus.
