Isn't Ben Popplewell with Lansdowne RFC, or has he moved?

When it's a win is it we?

Connacht picked a strong squad, which makes sense for pre-season. Men v boys.

it's a poor result irregardless of the strength of Connachts side.

lost three games in a row now, you'd have to wonder how strong an age group it is and how losing Noel Mc from the academy is having an effect.

Also maybe time to add a few older academy players to side to make it more competitive, not sure what they are learning from being so heavily beaten.

Sure. But a dev side thrown together coming up against more experienced senior and academy players hitting speed at the end of preseason is a formula for a blowout on a bad day.

A lot of these lads are used to playing on winning or at least competitive teams. Let's call it a reality check and hope they work harder and learn damage limitation mode.

Very hard to judge based solely on a match report but the statement that "Leinster ....who were competitive in the Forwards... in a game in which your opponents score a hat-full of tries is a pretty clear indication that our side were seriously inadequate defensively.

Although it was clearly predominantly a Leinster under-19/20 team, it is extremely unlike Leinster to field a team who concede so many tries.

The Connacht mid-field all have some senior experience and each has looked a good attacking prospect in the past. So maybe our focus should be on how good this Connacht group are, rather than how weak Leinster are with this particular group.

Unsurprisingly Jackman sounded off on Berti Newman and how the leinster academy is working at the moment on the42 rugby weekly podcast, starts at 43mins in: https://twitter.com/GavanCasey/status/1 ... 73634?s=20

Lots of valid points there about how the system works at the moment and how big a loss Newman is.
