He jumped, he lifted, he mauled, he moved well ... for a guy that size, that young, he is an exceptional athlete. Guys like Charlie Ryan and Gavin Thornbury took [or are taking, in Ryan's case] a long time to grow into their height. This fella Spicer looks like he is already there. What a prospect!

Re: Leinster Academy 2021-22
How does that work? Back when I was playing aged based rugby fadó, fadó, the cut was in the summer between the school years. So for example with my birthday in November when I turned 18 I was still u18 till the end of that school year aka that rugby season. So if Alan Spicer turns 17 anytime between now and next June he would still be u17 and as a result u18 aka Senior Cup eligible, when he goes into 6th year in September of 1922. Or am I missing something? Was the system changed in the meantime?

Re: Leinster Academy 2021-22
the interprovincial/national sides operate on a yearly basis so the year a player was born will determine what side he is eligible for.riocard911 wrote: ↑September 14th, 2021, 3:42 pm How does that work? so for this season:
the u18 schools side were born in 04 or later, i.e turn 18 in 2022.
the u19's born in 03, turn 19 in 2022.
the u20's born in 02, turn 20 in 2022.
So if Spicer turns 17 in 2022, he will be eligible for next seasons u18 schools side. But if he turns 18 in 2022, he will be eligible for the u19 side.

Gotcha, Mildly. Thanks for the explanation. But if he turns 18 in the latter half of 2022, he is still eligible for the SCT - correct?

It's been a very good interpro season for the underage sides outside of the 20's who have lost to ulster & munster.

I was at the match on Sunday and heard someone ask for a pic of the 2005 lads. Spicer was one of them. Pretty sure Alex Mullan is too along with Tom Stewart. I think there was two three more but not sure who they are. All bloody good players though.

Mullan was an interesting selection given his lack of height, maybe the expect him to grow a few inches over the next few years.Oddshapedballs wrote: ↑September 14th, 2021, 7:01 pm I was at the match on Sunday and heard someone ask for a pic of the 2005 lads. I'll be watching this Spicer lads progress with great interest. Hopefully his size is utilized correctly and not see as a hindrance. It took players like Dev and Will Skelton years to become the players they became, hopefully this lad is given the same patience and not shipped off abroad at 22.
