Charlie Ryan(22)

Big fan of all the second rows we'd have in the senior squad. Will be a position of real strength if Toner can stay on to coach Baird and Dunne through.
Good point.
Dev has certainly done a great job coaching James Ryan through.
Mirror, Mirror on the Wall who's the greatest player of them all? It is Drico your majesty.

I've found Dev's replacement! Cameron Boon, who is currently in the Saracens academy is 6ft 10, played Ireland u18 and looks an absolute unit already.

But ah no we should be well stocked at 2nd row for a good while yet. Unless Molony gets a well deserved big pay day in France or England.

Molony doesn't have the size that gets a big payday in England or France. Of course if he had that size he'd be an irish international

If that's their thinking then it's no wonder we've been able to hold onto players and sustain the level we have for so long.

Everyone likes Donnacha Ryan but he's 37 now, he'll turn 38 this year, he's only played 225 minutes [out of a possible 1520] for Racing this season and he's on a salary that almost certainly would cover the salary costs of all of Ross Molony, Ryan Baird, Jack Dunne, Charlie Ryan, Brian Deeny and Joe McCarthy.
Can’t, I meant can’t.

He’d probably take a dro to fulfil his dream of playing for Leinster, no?

Jack Dunne, 9 carries for 24 metres and 14 tackles last night.

Encouraging performance from him, hope to see him start again against Ospreys.

I thought he was really good as was Molony other than one daft penalty.

Zebre are a good yardstick because we know their locks that much better.

If Toner and Fardy leave, Leinster look a bit light at lock next season when Ryan/Baird are unavailabe:

Ross Molony(27) - 112 leinster caps
Josh Murphy(26) - 45 leinster caps
James Ryan(25) - 45 leinster caps, 34 irish caps
Jack Dunne(22) - 15 leinster caps
Ryan Baird(22) - 20 leinster caps, 2 irish caps

Charlie Ryan(22) - missed majority of this season due to injury
Brian Deeny(21) - missed all of this season due to knee injury
Joe McCarthy(20)

I don't see Toner leaving; I'd be surprised.

Maybe I'm wrong but I think that everyone is reading him being in at the trophy lift as documentary evidence that he's off, but it's not every day that a guy becomes the most capped Leinster player of all time in a final, in which he goes the full 80mins and we win the thing.

It doesn't make sense for us to let him go when we will be letting go Fardy and will see very little of James Ryan or Ryan Baird all season. I expect him to sign on for another year, unless he chooses to retire.

I agree that the trophy lift was about the caps. My read of the current situation is about contract length, Toner has been quite clear he wants to play on for 2 more years.. I expect he only has a 1 year contract on the table. Hopefully it get's sorted out, I'd hate to see Dev finish up with Leinster when fans aren't at the games. I'd certainly hate to see him play for another team.

he signed a new contract with Connacht.

though I would agree, if i was Leo i'd be sounding him out to see if he had interest in returning to dublin in the future.

mildlyinterested wrote: June 30th, 2020, 8:30 am With the extension of Fardy and Toner for one more season, all the senior 2nd rows signed a new contract this season, along with 2 promotions from the academy this is what the position looks like currently:

Lock
Devin Toner(34) - 6'11, 126kg. Signed 1 yr contract in 2020
Ross Molony(26) - 6'6, 111kg. signed contract in 2020
James Ryan(24) - 6'8, 112kg. signed 3 yr central contract in 2020
Jack Dunne(21) - 6'8, 115kg. signed contract in 2020
Charlie Ryan(21) - 6'7 110kg. Academy Yr 2
Brian Deeny(20) - 6'7, 110kg. Academy Yr 2

Lock/Blindside
Scott Fardy(36) - 6'6, 114kg. Signed 1 yr contract in 2020
Josh Murphy(25) - 6'6, 108kg. signed contract in 2020.
Ryan Baird(21) - 6'6 110kg, signed contract in 2020.

You'd assume this is Fardy's last season with Leinster and Toner will continue on after this upcoming season, Ryan moving onto a central contract was a given, he already only plays in leinster's most important games. Dunne graduated from the academy early along with Baird. It will be interesting to see how the share game time going forward with so many young players knocking around who need game time. Could Leinster next season only have homegrown 2nd rows next season? Or is a experienced, heavier lock needed?

Potential academy entrants:
Alex Soroka(U20/Belvedere/Clontarf) - 6'5, 105kg
Show Spoiler:
Image
Joe McCarthy(U20/Blackrock/DUFC) - 6'6, 108kg
Show Spoiler:

Soroka fits the Lock/Blindside prototype with experience at both positions, it's heavily rumoured he has joined the academy and is very highly rated as a blindside. McCarthy was impressive off the bench for the 20's and looked to have the frame and physicality for TH lock, it wouldn't be a surprise if he also joined the academy this summer. Beyond that leinster's production line of 2nd rows continues with 4 underage 2nd rows involved with ireland u18 last season.
James Ryan is now 6'7' not 6'8'. Shrunk a bit since his Lions snub I guess.
You know I'm going to lose,
And gambling's for fools,
But that's the way I like it baby, I don't want to live FOREVER!
