contract news day :)

I have no fears of unexpected bad news.
Hope you're right bud.

Maybe we're doing one position a day. ....... Tomorrow we'll sort out the second row :D
I expect a few more announcements today.. interesting they've decided to move away from doing them all in one go.

maybe they want a bit more coverage of signings than in the past?

Munster are in a special position with props and NIQs. They used their goodwill up poaching Botha and extending him as a player coach. They are supposed to develop props but instead they upskilled Archer and converted Ryan.

Not signing front line props has been the self sufficiency success story that's allowed them to sign players in every other position (like towels in Hitchhiker's Guide..).

Latest fig leaf is to sign younger players to do the last mile development for when Archer and Ryan age out. But they're botching that too.

Why sign a prop now when they can use Archer/Ryan, give Salanoa and Knox time and if/when it gets urgent they can come back for emergency assistance and get a proper signing anyway. JvG may even be lucky and someone will have a long term injury that forces him to to to market without ever exposing Munsters development to scrutiny

Yeah. He's a solid prop with lots of HC experience and over 200 games for Munster. They've gotten better than Billy Holland success out of a guy who looked like he didn't have a future in the game at development contract level.

Yep, they did quite some job on him in fairness. I mean I wouldn't let him within a million miles of the Leinster scrum, but they somehow got a more than competant Pro14 prop out of that mess

Ross Molony
I like your right leg. A lovely leg for the role.
I've got nothing against your right leg.
The trouble is ... neither have you

I remember his getting done so badly in an A game in Donnybrook that the ref threatened the opposing loosehead if he didnt go easy on him. Everyone in the stand was worried for his safety.

I thought he'd was finished, but through heroics of coaching and effect he made it to competent.

When Munster were told they absolutely had to develop players in a position they pulled it off. Their player development problems over the last 15 years are due to their indifference.

If true, that's absolutely fantastic news on Dev.

I'd be totally happy with recruiting McCarthy and Alaalatoa in, Dev maintained and no other signings, assuming only the likes of the guys we're aware of (Cronin, Bent, Fardy, C. Kelleher and at least two scrumhalves) are gone.

Kind of a weird way to do the contract announcements. Good to see all the same.

I imagine the delay in signing Toner up has been Leinster offering a one year deal and Toner wanting two. Important that we get him signed up for the year. He’ll still be young enough (for a lock) to get another deal elsewhere if he wants it after this contract and his injury profile is excellent.

Everyone talking about Furlong going south (figuratively and literally) has me nervous. Hope he’s one of the announcements tomorrow / this week.
