I certainly hope not. They are two radically different roles.sunshiner1 wrote:I'm assuming while still retaining his U20 Irish duties?by LeRouxIsPHat
Noel McNamara taking up a role in our academy according to the Indo.
One is about medium-term overall development of about 25-28 very talented players in every aspect of their skills and sporting character, with the objective of benefiting Leinster Professional rugby for the next 5-10 years. Because they are spread over a 3-year programme, each individual must be monitored on a very regular basis by the Academy Director, in consultation with Senior Coaches, S&C staff, Medical & Sports Psychologists, Nutritionist etc. The Academy Director isn't the only one with an opinion, but his opinion is usually the most important.
The Irish U.20 role is a pure coaching role, focussed on performances in two Tournaments, 6N and JWC, and requires detailed review and research of the entire Age-Group across Ireland before even commencing with the Team & Squad preparation for competition.
Despite the perception among many, coaching and development are not the same forms of education. Development includes coaching. Coaching only includes development as a by-product. In Team coaching, permormance and winning is the objective. In Development, improvement and eradication or minisation of weaknesses and enhancement of skills and integration within a group are some of the objectives which may take very different effort for different players.
So, IMO, impossible to combine these jobs without a very detrimental impact on the Academy.

Yeah I can't see McNamara being U20 head coach and academy director, but then I don't believe it's the academy director role he is taking over? Could be wrong on that one though.

Where did Blackrock College back-row, David Murphy, go? He was a regular in 2018 Leinster Club team.

Any transfers or dual club and school players? Think Adamson was Fintans too?mildlyinterested wrote:Breakdown of where leinster's irish under-20's have came from:

Still in school. 2018 clubs team was just this summer gone, basically that whole panel will still be in school and ineligible for U20s excluding the fact they probably wouldn't make the team anyway.Ruckedtobits wrote:Where did Blackrock College back-row, David Murphy, go? Adamson went to Fintans but came through the club underage system.Workhorse wrote:

Milne came through Birr RFC and club underage system before moving to CC Roscrea.
Re: Academy 2018/2019
Was he any good against England? I’m mildly worried we don’t have much back three quality coming through in the next few years, although I suppose our current batch is young enough to see us through the foreseeable future.mildlyinterested wrote:Aaron O'Sullivan is a unit, doesn't turn 20 til december

Re: Academy 2018/2019
It wasn't a game for wingers, he got a half of play and very little ball, did well in the air winning a ball in the air and forced a knock on from a strong chase of a kick. Will be disappointed in his missed tackle leading up to their try.Serb wrote:Was he any good against England? Back three talent is somewhat concerning, there a plenty of prospects knocking about but not sure how many are elite prospects.
