Sh*t news. We're within the NIQ quota, JGP qualifies through residency next year [i.e. we'll be below quota], and we've loaned Nagle to Ulster, where he has had probably the most successful spell of his career, playing in interpros and Heineken Cup games.

Fardy has been a huge positive to Leinster on the pitch, on the training field and off the grass. He's probably worth twice as much as he earns, and he's our only NIQ/NIE forward. He played a highly significant part in both cup and league wins last year while having absolutely no negative impact on the progress of James Ryan - a great balancing act by the coaches, which has been repeated this year.

Ireland has no pressing need for second rows with Toner, Ryan, Beirne and Henderson, then Dillane and Roux [with Kleyn qualifying next year].

Molony plays loads for Leinster - 75+ games in the last 3.5 seasons, and he's not even 25. He's never made an Irish training squad. Our academy second rows are in first year [Baird and Dunne] and second year [Dowling], and if they want to progress upwards, the guy they have to get past before anybody else is Mick Kearney, who's Irish.

To be frank, there's no good reason we shouldn't be allowed to re-contract Fardy.

That would be hugely annoying if true. Can't see any good reason for not allowing us to at least offer a contract to Fardy. In a recent Murray K piece the scenario seemed much rosier, with him hinting that IRFU wouldn't stand in the way.

A very good summary of our case. We (STH) should fight this. If true, we need to get confirmation that Leo & Stuart want to keep him and then plan what's the most effective way to change the mind of DN - there's always a way

If true absolutely terrible news, especially with the RWC next season. The IRFU were wrong when they thought Hines was too old for a contract extension, and regardless of the justification for not letting Fardy stay on they're wrong again if this is true.
