There is a post over on Bluestalk about this. Perhaps it can kick off a discussion on here?

Jaysus
3 & 4 is scary. There's nearly half a squad there.
Ruddock's tackle stats consistently too low for me to be taken seriously as a Six Nations blindside..... Ruddock's defensive stats don't stack up. - All Blacks Nil, Jan 15th, 2014

I have Jack McGrath up this year and Marty Moore 2016. You seem to have the opposite and you could well be right.

Hard to disagree with most of your conclusions. I left out Sean McCarthy. Not on purpose but he looks to be falling behind Byrne and perhaps even Dooley.

Cooney and Roux. I have not seen either of them much this year so it's hard to say if they will be kept. Or even stay in Connacht.

We have the option to get Roux back after Christmas.

I agree with most of that. Quinn Roux's playing quite well for Connacht - given his youth, the fact he'll be IQ by next season and the potential he showed as a younger player, is it not worth keeping on in the squad? Low risk, potentially decently high reward. Certain still prefer him to Denton (who I also favour keeping on as a squad player, if only because of our lack of depth in the row).

I think Dundon will be kept on as well. Very handy squad player (will come into his own with Strauss and Cronin away at the world cup). He's extremely competent in all areas.

Think Boss may well be gone - he'll turn 36 next season and having said he'd play on to the next world cup, now looks very unlikely to make it. Given his form issues as well, doesn't seem the best policy to give him another year.

The IRFU don't like extending foreign players' contracts and while Kirchner has been good this season, I'd rather a high quality signing for next season, even post world cup. I also hope SCM is kept on, but I guess we just don;t know what will happen there.

Possibly - do a Hayes in 2011 on it. Would he accept it?

standing on Dave Chaills shoulders here but including lads on development deals and academy year 3s I count 34 players with contracts up

that means the coach is going to seriously make his mark on the squad short and medium term

36 is a happy compromise so

22 in bold are no brainers even if some only short term to cover RWC, whether theyll all stay is another story

a lot of the non no brainers competing with each other for contracts

Cant really see us keeping Ryan, Murphy & McLaughlin imo. One will go elsewhere, likely McLaughlin as ive said before.
Thornbury would be pretty likely to get a development deal or potentially repeat a year in the academy IMO as he is 21 this season and at a position where he is years away from his peak. If he is ready to step up at 23(2016/2017 season) we will be in a good spot.
Van Der Flier and Coghlan could go to another province, Ulster or Connacht.
Think McGrath and SCM will be battling it out for a contract IMO.

If it's a choice between McGrath and SCM for a contract McGrath's the very firm favourite given our immediate need in his position. Coughlan doesn't really look like making it at Leinster anymore, his departure seems likely. Think Van Der Flier will get a development deal given his recent progress.

cant see Murphy moving now that hes an international and in 1st XXIII
can see offers being made to all of them but again whether they all take it is another story

even if Jennings is only kept til Christmas hes well worth keeping as a coach to an underage side

3 McGraths in the senior squad and 4 Byrnes in the academy confusing stuff.

Yeah. the only other one is Tyrone Moran. He played a half in pre season and perhaps some B&I. I think I may have forgot to remove Kearney when I counted 38

Jennings is a year and a half younger than D'Arcy and also looks after himself very well. I wouldn't be writing him off any time soon.

I'd leave the choice of his retirement up to him, (not that it's up to some dope on a forum) He will know when his body has had enough better than anyone else and he's still a great player.

Well based on the game time MOC is giving them both you would be right at this point in the season anyway.
